Well I've come across this '55 Cadillac Limo sitting forlorn in an old poultry house. I'm pretty sure I don't want a limo even though it might be fun but this old girl has been sitting for a very long time. Looks to be pretty complete with fairly decent sheet metal. Tail lights and headlight bezels are absent but owner says they might be in the trunk (he can't find the keys). Side trim is in the car. 331 is all there with factory air. Interior is ratty but complete with rear jumpseats. I think it can be bought fairly cheap ($1,500-$1,800) and if I bought it I'd probably yank the engine and part out the rest. No ***le, just bill of sale. Thoughts?
My guess is at $1500 you could double your money parting it out. From the dash forward everything fits a sedan or coupe. The rear section brings good coin from the "turn it into a couch" crowd. Recommend checking bumper, grille, trim prices online.
Best decision money wise is to part it out, if you want one to drive , buy one already finished and with a ***le for less than half the cost of a restoration ,and you drive away the first day , instead of a frustrating multi-year project. =my opinion
Shorten it up so the 2nd door is completely gone making it a 2 door sedan or better yet, a pillard coupe. Chop the top while you're at it. Leave all the factory trim on it and paint it the original caddy color: Tan and white. That'd blow everybody away! Take it to the DMV for a ***le and tell them it was a prototype caddy.
Buy it, make it pretty, fill it up with pretty women and cruise, You might want to hire a chauffeur...lol
See if the engine turns over (or was it parked because it seized?) if you're buying it to keep the engine and to part out the rest. If a ***le can easily be had in your State it's a shame to part it out, but like Dave said, they're money pit's to restore.
