Hi guys my question is easy for you 39 ford owners, so here it is, my 39 has the shock frame, with a 327 gm and Muncie 4speed whats in tailed in pulling the trans, looks real tight ,will it come out without pulling motor thanks
something had to be modified to get the muncie in , at least the saddle removed. kinda depends how it was done my guess without seeing it would be that you could not pull the transmission back far enough to get it out pictures?
I have my Dad's 1939 Ford Deluxe Coupe - 327 Chevy and Muncie 4 speed - unsplit wishbone front. In years past when the engine and or trans needed to come out - just took off hood and grill and took out as unit. I have better fabricated transmission tunnel and front floors - bolt in. But with the mostly stock cross member - I doubt you can take out the trans from the p***enger compartment like original car. Never tried it - my best guess is it is still easier to pull out as unit.
My 1939 Ford - in above post has 1940 petal set and z- bar. I just bought a Drake 1939 repo set of brake and clutch petals - need about 1/2 inch more clutch fork disengagement - s****es in reverse gear sometimes. How is your clutch set up on your 1939 Ford S-dan? With 1939 stock petals - would love to see pic of clutch action from petal to clutch fork. Thanks
Does it still have the torque tube or is it an open drive. If you have the torque tube you probably need to remove the rear end to get it out the bottom. If it's an open drive...well than if there is a will there is a way....just saying. I would just pull the engine and trans combo together. Probably a lot easier.
Like Mike Stewarts, my 36 has a SBC and Muncie, also unsplit bones, for me to pull my trans , I've got to pull the front sheet metal rad and engine. If I did another I would figure a way to make the middle of the x member removable so I could just drop the trans. Mitch.
