hi guys - Fitting F100 brakes to Early Ford spindles - old magazine article tells me I have to grind the radius on the inner bearing. Searching the internet, lots of people have said Nah ya dont have to grind the inner bearing - its not a problem, have never had to do this........ so who is correct ? and if you have the grind the radius on the inner bearing - what do you use ? i bought a new rotary burr and it wouldnt even look at it let alone grind any sort of radius. can anyone ***ist ?
There’s a thread on this with a back in the day magazine article scanned and copied into it. If you can’t find it I think I have it somewhere. I used it to set up my F1 brakes on roundback spindles. Doesn’t need much grinding - just enough to allow to sit back against the spindle. I used a tungsten burr and finished off with my powerfile. Tape the bearing first or it will get ruined. i've always ground them as blackjack said if you don't grind them i don't think you'd have any problems, maybe just a little harder to get apart if needed
Cover the opening between the races and rollers with lots of duct tape. Don't want any grinding media in the cage area. https://www.hotrodhotline.com/md/html/f100_page2.php
