Congrats...Kevin and the guys up at HRCC have extraordinary talent and p***ion for hot rods...you'll be a fine compliment to the shop. I wish I could get up there more often, especially for the Thursday nights, but it's a lengthy haul for me. But the Czars are a cool bunch...good luck with the business. I look forward to what the new polished and perfected HRCC has to offer.

i'm 16, and we have/had the same dream. my dad does some fab. work for a living, but when i'm older i kinda wanna turn it into pretty much exactly like what you're doing. i wanna know is it really that hard to get you own shop started, and is it really something you can make a good living doing since there are so many hot rod shops out there these days??? any input/advice/use info, would greatly be appreciated.

and a big congrats on fullfilling your dream, it makes me wanna go out and start something of my own right now.

This sounds really cool, congrats. I hope you have devised a business plan. And if so, be sure to sit down and review it after your first year and see if you are actually doing what you wanted to be doing in a year. I know, I know.....it's the banker in me. But planning pays off more than anyone would ever think. So far all looks great!!

Everything the banker said and here is a dirt cheap recommendation for any business, up and running or just in the thought process.... this if from the accountant in me.

I'm not familiar with your area of IL, but if you have a "good" 4 year college nearby, I'm sure they offer this service to local businesses.

The local 4 year here, charges $100 and has a team put together a formal business proposal and plan, this is the real **** not some student paper looking ****. We had teams of 4-6 students all with diff majors... marketing, accounting, finance etc, the plans have to p*** a review by local lenders and investors, and we had a roundtable presentation to do for the owners, their accountants and attorneys. Hell I think the printing cost us $185 out of pocket, and I know I spent 320 hours on my accounting portion of the plan, and I bet we had over 1200 hours total. The client ran us ragged with ideas, we did a market ****ysis, compe***ion survey and ran cost profiles till I could scream, all of which had to p*** the review mentioned above. Well worth the $100.

As I said the colleges typically offer this for any/all businesses. Those not yet off the ground, those thinking of expanding or just an evaluation on market strength and demographics.
