I have a question. I want to do a transparent color on some clear tail lights and was wondering how to go about doing it. Does anyone have any idea how they did them. I was thinking about candy paint and then someone said dye. so looking for someone who has done this before. Any help would be great. Thanks Brad
Well these where done in the late 50's i think 1958 ...there clear lenses actually there the front parking light lenses they must have painted the bulb red back then now you can buy red bulbs...This was pretty cool for its time....This might not be what you are looking for but an idea anyways.....
Thanks those look great. But i was thinking of a way to do a transparent color on the inside of the lens.
I think if you do it a candy red or somekind of red color when the light hits it ...I think it might look pink.....
I want to do them in a transparent Blue. I just wanted a starting point to work from. I have heard of folks doing it the day. Thought i would as the board. I'm going to try the dye and see what happens. Brad
There was another HAMBer who used blue Reynold's Wrap on his headlights on a VW bus to make them blue like the Euro cars have. Says it's microwave safe so it can handle incredible heat and if it gets ****ty it's only like two bucks for a huge roll. If your lenses are flat or your bulbs are recessed enough so the plastic doesn't touch it, you should be able to put any color of that stuff between clear lenses and your reflectors. All depends on what you're doing with it but I figured I'd mention it.
How about using some lighting gels . The stuff comes in all kinds of colors for movie production lighting (or theater)and seems to handle the heat. Just cut to fit inside the lense and you got a custom color
