Chevy rear end interchange info

    The torque tube rearend in my 52 chevy car is howling , what years will interchange , 49-52 only or can I use 53-54 , are they longer?

  2. I believe they are all the same, the major difference is the gearing (Powerglides are 3.55's while "sticks" are 4.10). If you want I can look it up in my FSM.

    if you can verify that the tube is not longer on a 53-54 I would be stoked , cuz I can one of those.

    It should work. Years ago, my neighbor had a '53 sedan that the rear end went out on, and I sold him one out of a '52 wagon and it went in with no problems.

    yeah, 49-54 are interchangeable. 49-52 have 4.11 gears and 53-54 manual trans cars have 3.73 gears while the Powerglide cars have 3.55. I'm swapping a 54 rear into a 51 this weekend. I sure hope it fits!!

  7. you should have no problem with it fitting! i have even put them in 46 thru 48 chevies
