any of you guys in the states walk up to the magazine rack in a store and see the latest rodders journal on the rack? well how about being a longtime subscriber that pays way up front and waits the longest to get the issue? what does old steve ****an figure we got his money make him wait we worry more about selling to fresh blood than the guys that supported his magazine from almost the very begining. mike budniewski subscriber

Ya can't do anything about how the book gets distributed. As long as you get yours in a reasonable amount of time from publication, I don't think you can *****. I'm an original subscriber and the wait has always been worth it to me.

The guys from down under always let us know when it's about to hit our mail boxes. Usually a week later. It just elevates the anticipation.:D

I think he has a point, why subscribe if you can buy it on the news stand faster? At least that way you know you get a nice copy.... mine always get messed up in the mail. They should take car of subscribers first, plain and simple.

oh, and also beg Pat to come back.

  5. You do have a point, Mike. It should be just like any other mag, you get yours a full week before a walk up can get it. No excuses. No "well, yeah but what about this?" what about that"? B.S. - I never subscribe to anything. I just walk up and stick whatever it is I want in my coat!!

I have "subscribed" for two years and gotten maybe 3 or 4?? out of 8???

At the last apartment I lived at, the dumb as a bag of rocks mail person THUMBTACKED the envelope to the wood above the mailboxes because it wouldn't fit in my box...another time, the envelope clearly marked "DO NOT FOLD" was folded in half and shoved inside. I moved, last July and sent an address change thing into them, but never heard back and never got another issue.

Since resubscribing in december, at the new place, I've recieved one issue. I think the most recent one has been delivered....the postal employee left a package slip in my box saying they left it at the front office....except it's not there! They don't exaclty lock the packages up though. I get something delivered weekly that gets dropped off at the front office, and I just walk in, say hi, and grab whats mine. With "the Rodder's Journal" plainly on the cover, someone who knows what it is wouldn't have any problem taking it.

I'm giving up on it, the bookstore always has it anyway and I don't have a problem paying extra. I don't completely blame the subscription department, but they're not too helpful.

    The magazine (periodical?) RULES.

I do not sbscribe to Rodders journal, but do subscribe to other car rags. The thing is, with out the subscription you take your chances in getting a copy. I'm sure that the guys/ gals in the bigger cities will say they can always get one somewhere in town, and this may be true. However, if you live in a smaller town, and depend on the locale corner store to carry it, you may find that due to low interest, or failing sales, you now going without. A subscription should insure you a copy. If it does not, usually a strong spoken letter to the mag editor will net the desired effect.

  9. The subscription card in any magazine I get is the first thing I throw out.

  10. Nothing worst than seeing you mag at the newsstand before you get it in the mail.

It really steams me to see my magazines on the newstand before I get it in the mail. I usually buy TRJ off the rack anyways so I get both covers. The lucky s.o.b.s down under got theirs a week ago. Finally got my R&C today after hearing all about it here on the HAMB. And where's my Hop-Up
    dag nabit..

  13. I paid up front for R&C and NEVER got a single copy. Same with Engine Masters. Neither one ever answered phone calls or letters. That was ages ago. They still send me notices to "re subscribe" - I'm delinquent.

I've stopped buying anything from Petersen. Vultures.

My dad has two cars in his museum and I still have to pay like anyone else to see them. Cheap *******.

I buy Rodders Journal at the bookstore, that way I can GUARANTEE that I get a copy that isn't shredded. Nearly all of my magazine subscriptions that are deliverd to the house here are toast by the time I get them.

Just yesterday I got a magazine with the first 4 pages ripped off and folded in half in a plastic bag with a "Sorry about your mail" tag in there from the P.O....

I think because last name starts with a B, I must be the top magazine in each bundle that gets sent to the post office here....

  15. I agree completely with Gl***guyOC. My mailbox is locked and pretty big and it still comes ****ed-up, and Ive been subscribing since issue 5. In the past Ive called and asked for a new one and theyve sent it, it only arrives a LITTLE ****ed-up. Ive been hearing how great the new issue is for 2 weeks and still nothing in the mailbox. As long as thats how it is for longtime subscribers Im gonna keep calling for replacement issues, I dont care how many it takes til I get an undamaged one. And when the subscriptions up, Barnes/Noble here I come.

Well TRJ like most mags has issues. Can we all agree?

The subscription has benefits, like the Freebie T-shirt. Which took 12 calls, and 8 months to finally show up. The Holiday present, POSTER. This year was Moonglow.

Can anyone tell me the difference between Newstand and Subscription pricing since I'm at work. I probably won't renew this time around. But I don't recall the price difference amounting to much savings over the newstand. But if you live in the sticks the sub is the only way to go. What issues you dont get I guess hit up ePay.

I'm a confessed magazine junkie and I haven't subscribed to any of them for 20 years. I don't like wadded up magazines and got sick of buying 75% replacements for the missing and trashed ones. Business side people will also tell you that success numbers are gauged on newstand sales- that should give you a little clue about things.

Buying a subscription to a magazine gets you a DISCOUNT OFF OF THE COVER PRICE, it doesn't guarantee that you get your issue before the newstand does every month or however often the magazine is published.

Most subscriptions these days are handled by 'brokers' of sorts, not directly employed by the ***le in question...not true in every case, but in many instances, yes. These "subscription dealers" can offer you the magazine at a bargain price (compared to buying each issue at the newstand and paying full cover price), but they don't claim to be able to get you those discounted magazines before they reach the newstands.

People often gripe about seeing magazines that they subscribe to at the stand before they get their copy in the mail, but they forget that they're getting their copy for less than the people buying them off the rack are paying!

It's a trade-off...do you want it FASTER, or do you want it CHEAPER?

If price is an issue, then subscribe and wait.
If you want it as soon as possible, run down to the stand and pay full price.

    ;) :)

I think we know that JimA has hit the nail right on the head! I guess it should have been an easy shot for him since he is an "Insider" to the workings of the magazine business. :) I also get sick of not getting my magazines before I see them on the stands. It seems to me long ago that getting your magazine BEFORE the newsstand used to be one of the benefits of subscribing. I guess that's why we pay less for our subscriptions now...slower mail service?
As far as TRJ, I subscribe for the free poster at Christmas. I think the 2 covers BS is just a scam to sell more issues.

The HAMB isn't customer support for The Rodders Journal. I suggest you contact them directly...
