    Hello HAMB Members
I believe I might have an bad/cracked Flexplate. I purchased a new PRW SFI Flexplate P/N 1845505. Before I bought it, I spoke to the PRW tech support and verified the P/N is designed for my 58 Olds engine/transmission steup. When it arrived, the label states 1968-90 Olds V8 260, 307, 350, 400, 403 166 Teeth OEM T-450, T-400 compatible.

Have not dropped transmission and removed old flexplate to compare. Before I do I like to make sure new one will fit/work. Do you know if this flex plate will fit my transmission and work with my 371 engine/starter?

    Thanks,

    Erol

The 58 has a jetaway trans the flex plate is completely different from a TH 350--400. Drop the lower bell housing check with a good light. I think you have some loose bolts. Dan

Hi Dan...Thanks for confirmation. Another vintage Olds expert just informed me that my "new flex plate will NOT fit. New one has ring gear on plate. 56-60 {jet-a-way} has ring gear on converter. 56 is by it's self,57-60 will interchange." I did drop the lower bell housing and checked all bolts. All are tight. Another friend said that can't tell flexplate is cracked unless drop trans and inspect it.

I think this is a case where the, "Discount Tire" ad, of a little old lady, throwing a tire through the businesses window, is appropriate. NO, I won't post your bail! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

I just pulled a 56 jetaway on Monday and the flex looks just like the 57 I pulled 6 months ago.

What makes you think the flexplate is cracked?

  7. LOL I got the flex for my 394 (to slant pan) ands that sucker is probably make of 3/16 plate. It would almost take and act of god to crack it. I don't remember (I have not pulled a jet-a-way in ages) but as I recall they had a pretty substantial flex plate. Not like the later GM products.
