You gave me likes when the pictures were upside down, on their side, and you pointed me in the direction of the Linda Vaughn page... to which I am eternally grateful
Unfortunately,I don`t have any H.A.M.B. friendly vehicles.Just a wore out OT/DD pickup. But,I got to say this is one of the best if not the best site I have been on.Thanks to everyone who contributes to the great content. And a big thanks to Ryan for starting Jalopy Journal and the H.A.M.B. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
I first came here looking at a model car diorama of modified stock car racing from the '50's, and was directed to that by a fellow member of Jimmies Old Time Racing Photos who went by "Jackbolt". I have been here ever since. What a place, I'll tell ya.
Here here , kept my sanity in challenging times...tons of knowledge just for the asking...Kudos to Ryan also....Happy New Year...
@Rocky amazing how many story’s we still tell from the banzi run to Minnesota for the Christmas party. Remember some of that better than I remember last week lol
January 4th marks 9 years since I joined. I found this board after seeing a bunch of comments about it on other sites. I saw right away I had found a site with a lot of like minded folks. I have learned lots of things that I would never have any where else and I hope I have helped some others along the way. I have had some posts that go against my grain as I am sure some of my comments have done the same to others but that's life. All that said, this is the best site ever and I am thankful to be a member. I don't know what I would do with out it as I hit on it 4 or 5 times a day, probably more than that in the winter when it is too cold to be out in the garage much. It is great to have so many old timer hot rod and custom guys, most of whom I will never get to meet in person, that I know have been there and done that and are willing to share what they know with others. I think I am addicted to the H.A.M.B., but I don't want to be cured!!!
I ended up here because Kathy Isam bought Tuffy, built by my best Friend, Ron Bettin, and I joined to let her know a couple of things about Ron and Tuffy. I didn't even check back for several months until one evening I was bored and checked in and sowly became hooked.......now I am on the HAMB almost every day except for when I have been in the hospital and during my recovery from my last bout with cancer that I luckily beat!
I remember the FNG tag when I joined in Dec 2007. I had basically been away from the car scene for five or six years because I got tired of what ever I did to my ride being outdated as soon as I showed up at an event and about that time the engine in the 48 got so worn out it wouldn't start. I started spending more time on the computer when I bought a new laptop that I could actually do something online with. I was tied in with some traditional rodders from BC and one of them had mentioned "Those guys on the Hamb" and curiosity lead me here. I then became one of those guys on the Hamb. I'm having fun, I can build a car the way I always wanted to do since I was in my early teens and have it look similar to what I fell in love with in the late 50's early 60's when I checked out Hot Rod off the Bookmobile every time it showed up and spent my allowance and any money I could s****e together for the little books at the grocery store. I've got to meet a few members over the years and found out that a few long time friends are members. I've even got to be known as the guy who takes photos that show up on the Hamb at an event or two if I remember to make sure to check the date and not miss it.
Bob K put me onto this site around 06/07, watched from sidelines till 09, signed up and started posting and recently hit 2000 posts. I must have been lucky as I did not receive a hard time from anyone that I remember ( I did read guidelines, did not ask stupid questions, did not point out non HAMB friendly features on my cars or argue if a negative comment was received as my deal is old school look, 60's ) maybe things were different by 09 and have noticed some changes since I've been here for the better IMO. Agree with you, this place is a great way to make some new friends, the BEST car site for a car guy, History, Pictures, Build Threads, Tech. I, like you, especially since I retired am here every day with AM coffee, the HAMB starts my day and like many, grateful for the experience. HOTRODPRIMER, THANK YOU !!!
My buddy pointed me to the HAMB when I asked him a question about my 32 and he wasn't sure on the answer. He also said be careful what and how you ask your question. I thought I better p***. Started watching from far far away but it was like driving by a wreck, just had to keep looking. I think that started in 08, 09. With sweaty hands I joined 2010, I think I still have the skid marked shorts when I posted my intro. I must have rewrote it 20 times and reread it over two days before I posted. I have no idea what I wrote but I wasn't flamed, that I can remember. And have been on the dark side ever since. I kind of miss my early days here, the crew was out of bounds but so was the knowledge and information. This place has changed, for better or worse I don't know but the common thread for the love of the old hot rods I think has grown thanks to Ryan and all of the guys present and gone that makes me feel good to be a HAMB member. Glad you brought this up HRP, triggered some great memories.
November 2002. Don’t really remember how I came across this site. I do know that was the time I began building my traditional 37. So I would guess I was looking for ideas and parts. This place was exactly what I needed. Experience, knowledge, friendship, laughter and amu*****t. We’ve had so so many personalities over the years here. 95% of them I am proud to know and converse with. I remember getting hazed. I’ve got tough skin. The first thing Germ did was har*** me about my handle having two names together. It’s amazing. As a reminder... don’t forget to renew your alliance membership.
Randy was a really good guy and the first HAMB'er I met in person. Turned out we had a mutual friend in Buster, aka 3 Deuces. I sure do miss him. Any idea what happened to his cars?
And here is Germ's thread from Nov. 2003 reminiscing about the Old HAMB! Danny, you are carrying on a HAMB tradition.
Just a few weeks before Randy went into the hospital for the heart surgery he sold the 3 window coupe to a fellow hamber and as far as I know he still has it. The Mercury truck was sold a year or so before the 3 window. The roadster is not for sale. HRP
I found out about the HAMB in 2004. Drove to MOKAN to kind of a private event and figured all they can do is throw my dumb *** out. Was so hyped by the whole thing that I drove home and joined the board. My thanks to all of you for letting me hang around for the last 14+ years. Pete I think it was 2004 but that may or may not be correct. Seems I remember a hog being cooked in the SW corner and FE O2's east coast modified that he had built in the 2 weeks before.
My HAMB name has been changed, because my old computer died and I'd forgotten my p***word. I think I originally joined before the 1st HAMB drags, when ever that was. It took a couple of HAMB drags before I was able to attend one. It was a lot of fun, and my wife and I attended a few more before life got in the way. I remember the FNG sign under your HAMB name meant you were open game, I didn't have much trouble, I have thick skin, and a thicker head. I don't remember if I ever did an introduction or not, but fortunately, in one of my 1st few posts I was able to provide an answer to a question I actually knew something about. That probably saved me from a lot of pain, because my spelling and grammar still ****s. Things have certainly mellowed over the years, that may be good or bad depending on how a person's day has been going, I think. I've made several online friends, and have had a chance to meet many of them in person. I expect there are many more friends to meet both online and in person as life rolls on. There have been a few that have p***ed on, and a few that have moved on, but over and above the vast information, history, pictures, and tech, its the friendships that keep me coming back. I also enjoy sharing my experiences with others , so they might avoid a few of the mistakes I've made, or maybe I can share with them how I got through something they may be going through. I want to thank all the guys that keep this place going. Gene
I got interested in this thread and checked my profile to see when I joined and was really surprised to see that I ‘ve been here since 2002. I can’t remember how I found my way here, but glad I did. Time flies!
Wonder why it took so long to find this thread, congratulations HRP, and thanks for all you do to keep this site rolling along. Doug, noboD told me I might enjoy this place back in April of 2004, he sure was right about that. Everything I enjoy about the hobby is here, along with a lot of good people. I meet a total stranger here and we became good friends, met face to face at Hershey, got a lot of good advice from him, I miss Bulto every day. Bob
A friend of mine suggested that I looked on this HAMB site, and it was April 2009, I did, and I do not regret joining at all, in fact, its probably the site and forum that I view the most, I enjoy the banter and advise, pictures, facts, all sorts, after all we are all petrol heads. Thanks to Ryan and the moderators, long may the HAMB continue.
Well spoken! Germ, you were one of those guys I was steering clear of back then! Hahahaha Glad you made it back ! I didnt dare to sign up right away, because the crowd was pretty rough from time to time if you were a newbie and asked the wrong things....so I lurked a year or two until I decided to sign up Jan 2003. I must have kept my mouth shut at the right times cause I never got flamed in all those 16 years. I'm 42 now, I can't wait to hang out with you guys for the next 60 or so years. ( you can tell I'm an opimist)
Germ's old persona usually had most of us scratching our heads and thinking WTF is he talking about and others thought he was Beelzebub's baby brother. He did scare the carp out of a few people back then. He turned the corner and got into rehab and working again.HRP In Germs own words.
