And if you don't build that modified, it'd look pretty sweet in my '74 Manta.

another background. minitruck style is mainly "whats not accepted" just like allyou old time rodders in the 50's and 60's. but today us kids have new toys to fuck up! here are some pics of my last few projects. some of you wont like but some of you- like me - appreciate anything custom. a main reason for building this rod is for advertisement. in havasu there are a bunch of old timers and there wicked cool rods. you show up to a show in anything 59 and newer your not welcome there. heres pics of one of my tow trucks that his the same paint scheme. flat black with red and lots of chrome. yes im a chrome whore. and proud! my 96 chevy 6" channel 3" of rockers cut to lay doors on 22" wheels! in many mags just like my 88 toyota with $15,000 or more in a $500.00 truck. and the race banshee. will post more of the t tomarrow. got motor and trans in today. get my rear end out of a 64 tbird tomarrow. 56" long should work perfect. oh yeah i cant run a flat head cause they dont wear bowties. that ought get a rise outta some of you!! thanks for all the comments, travis

    Welcome.

Bunch of ass holes here. It's funny...bump steer problems on a car with no steering setup yet, small block chevys are rare (and flatheads too?), and somewhere the thinking is backwards when a sbc is a boat anchor and you should go with a flathead Ford...I thought boat anchors were suposed to slow you down?

Anyway the project looks good so far, and I'll bet it'll be a hell of lot more fun than a mini-truck.

Build What YOU like and CAN afford, many guys have loans on the hot rods they drive, if your building a car around what you got then you are traditional and any old timer will appreciate that!! GOOD LUCK and glad to have you in the "Rat Rod" (puke) scene!

PBR ALLstar's right. You need to be careful slinging the word "Rat Rod" around! Some folks are burned out on it already! You're off to a real good start on that chassis! Always keep in mind the fact that safety & strength is essential to a good build on a Hot Rod. IMO, you can never "overbuild" anything! Gussets are good wherever you may question how sturdy your frame rails, etc; really are. Good Luck! I like what you're doing!

since ihe basically has two choices: make a new cross link that goes under the radius arms (or atleast dips way under the frame).

could he move the cross link out so it sits in fromt of the axle? by swapping spindles? if so what problems would be created, or are there any potential drawbacks that i may be missing?

Why would anyone build a RAT ROD. Hot Rods are way cooler. Do the best job you can.

Hey Cameltowing!! Keep truckin' along....your ideas will change as you go along with the build, and A LOT of these guys are gonna give you shit all the way through it. I'd like to keep up with this progress....seems like you're excited about it, and doing it with the best of your ability. None of us were born hot rodders....we all start at ground zero. Just my $0.02.

Cut him some slack. It's his first hot rod and he's jumping in with both feet.

If he stops halfway throught the build and says "look at my rat rod I just finished!" then rip him to shreds. :D

Because it is, most people at least look into what they are going to build. A little research goes a long way. He could have joined a club or at least asked for some direction. Fuck I did on my first build and my cars aint Rat Rod shit.

  21. Flathead, Chevy, "rat rod", bump steer, who really cares! When this baby is done it's gonna fit right in. Lets run down the list:
    1. Waaay too over channeled.
    2. Suicide + front end ( lets get those front wheels way out there boys)
    3. Probably a phony company name on the door- Jimmy's Plumbing Supply
    4. Probably a name for the beast ( you gotta have a name dont ya)
    5. Last but not least, a cool trailer to pull the car on. Why in the world would
    you want to drive it?

Yep, I know- shit talkin, but c'mon, a car like this is such a shock or surprise? Not likely. LOL

Well, aren't you special. MOST people on here, and many people NOT on the HAMB, actually had to learn it themselves. He DID join a "club" (the HAMB) and has asked for some sugestions. I daresay he'll take suggestions couched in a more constructive manner than just from someone making an effort to be an asshat. MOST people would.

It amazes me that amongst all the decent, helpful rodders on here, there are still a few who think it's a virtue to be closed minded dicks, as though it makes them a better person.

Fuck?? Where to start? If I were going to build a fucking spaceship I wouldn’t start it then think, maybe I should ask for advice. Id ask first. Even know I looked at other cars, asked for guidance I still built the fucking things myself and learnt a lot along the way.
The damn chassis is apiece of shit, I’m not gonna say it 'nicely' just so I don’t hurt someone’s feelings. Now If I was talking shit about something like Littlemans awesome coupe your comments are justified.
Remove head from sphincter then post, asshat.

Hey, good luck with this project, I'm sure you'll learn a lot! My suggestions would be to compare what you are doing with pics of real deal hot rods (back when modified American cars were either sports racers, customs or hot rods). I'm going to go WAY out on a limb and say even IF airbags were in use in street driven cars back in, say, the 50's, hot rods would not have had them. "X-generation" RAT RODS with bags look like a broken dick. Study the stance HOT RODS had back in the 40's, 50's, 60's and beyond, they are high, low, nose up, nose down. The only time a hot rod sat flat on the ground is after it barrel rolled down the dry lake bed. Low is cool but....

This whole layed out thing, at least in hot rods, will go away EVENTUALLY, and this whole schpeel was unnecessary because this will take care of itself, EVENTUALLY, but damn.....

OH, the frame could be a lot beefier too.
