Thanks Rusty! That was #2. The equipment dealer across the street was never officially an overflow, but it was used for spectator parking. Things got crazy in #2 and way too big for the shop, so we had to move it to Grundy Co. Speedway. Also, it was Marty & Sons Body Shop. Drew eventually added Suicide Axle as part of it (maybe all Suicide Axle now), but at the time it was just Marty & Sons.

anyone know anything about that sectioned 40 coupe?
    Was it ever finished?
Or any of the other projects backed up to the fence.

  12. one of the Mad Fabricator Videos has a lot of footage from #2, it was crazy. I remember the coffin car with flame throwers making passes up and down the street.

At first glance I thought the porta- potties were in the box of the truck.:D

  16. thanks for the info guys, Hellfish,..you are correct on all counts, I remember the Imp.dealer was used for spectators,...the sectioned 38-9 Ford coupe did get finished,..it runs an Imperial hemi,..here's one pic I found, lookin for more...don't know about those other project cars...
...the Pileup was the first show like it in our area and is the sole reason the Scrap Drive exists,..the Pileup spawned many shows in the midwest....I made all of them until it moved from Morris...thanks go out to the Chrome Czars...and ALL the volunteers.

55DA21A9-4146-45E7-A3EC-EE6450EE4DEC.jpeg The Pileup was a great time from the first one to the last one. Great people and a great selection of hot rods and customs. You can see the Numnut in picture number 6 inspection of the 32 coupe.
This picture maybe from the second one as well

Marty, the coupe was finished Guy Stone and had the 56 olds dash . It was a old hotrod back in the day and Gary is driving the coupe now.. The sedan with the inline Chevy got finished years later. That was a neat car and had to jump in from the top lol..

As all have said, it was a great show!

2007, PA111478.JPG This truck really did it for me. Tough but subtle. I have not seen it since.

  24. My first Hunnert was, unfortunately, the last one (in Decatur).

Jalopy Fest is held on the same grounds that Hunnert once was. But it isn't nearly as big. So what gives? Why can't it be as great as Hunnert was?

Jalopy Fest has a different set of rules & criteria than the Pileup did, so it has a different vibe. For example, several of the cars Rusty1 posted probably wouldn't have gotten into the Pileup (stock, modern wheels, too new, etc). Different organizers. Different era. Different show. Similar in some ways, different in others. Lots of things contribute to attendance.

it rained the first year. i made it to all ten. worked the gate inspection several years and then they stuck me at the Tshirt table. something new that year were hunnert car pile up panties for the ladies but i saw several guys buying them for ear muffs. the panties weren't moving too well so i started offering $5.00 off with your trade in. i figured i could probably sell the used ones for double the price and make up for the discount. sadly, there were no takers.
