Will be painting the 54 in a few months and not sure how much paint to purchase. Will be doing single stage urethane , non-metallic and figuring 3 or 4 coats. Dont want to just guess and have too little or way to much..Thanks guys
With that many coats and if you include the interior garnish, dash, door jambs, etc, you are looking somewhere between 2-3 gallons of paint.
what color, what brand/line? its important to know what you are buying. i can tell you if you bought Sherwin Williams Genesis line and painting it white, 3 quarts color 1 quart hardener could do the job if you are decent painter. if you buy an "economical line and chose most reds or yellows, it may take upwards of 5-6 coats for coverage and will require close to 2 gallons of color plus hardeners and reducers. todays paints are designed to have a dry film thickness of 2-3 mils depending on pigment load and other solids of the product. each coat should equate to a mil with proper application. excessive coats will most likely cuase problems like solvent pop, bad orange peel, cracking and delamination. good paint aint cheap and cheap paint aint good.
Thanks Guys for the input. I will probably be painting it around June/July, so have a while yet to decide MFG, color etc.
