What a stupid idea.

  1. Sell the '57 ch***is and you won't be poor....

Kanter doesn't have ball joints for one of these? Napa doesn't? Application should be 49-54 Chrysler and probably DeSoto also.

I found two listings on eBay just now in completed auctions for something called a "ball joint repair kit" for 1949 through 1960 Ford and Chrysler, neither one sold at $40.00. Description claims it takes the play out of them and will do two ball joints. "ANDREW MANUFACTURING COMPANY ABK-11"

That made me curious, so I just checked Kanter's website. They have these ball joints, they offer a complete front end kit for this car for about $300, the catch being if it's a T&C, Imperial, station wagon or limo/7-8-9 p***enger sedan, the kit price doesn't apply and the parts have to be bought individually.

So, it took me all of 5 minutes to find them... www.kanter.com -

except that they used kin pins instead of ball joints until 57....

The ball joint "repair kits" are just a spring to install to take up some of the slop for folks who couldn't afford new ball joints.

HEY, I got a Dodge 318 with Trans, all rebuilt and ALL RIGHT HANDED THREADS, would work perfectly for this project. HA

I would not change the ch***is, just due to the fact that the 57 ch***is is worth more than the Dodge is, I would do as others have suggested and LEAVE the dodge ALL MOPAR....its alot cooler that way, just ask the Mopar guys.

Maybe, but you'd be turning a "*******" into a "morphodite".

I'd rather have the ******* anyday.

  7. okay, ya done pissed me off now!:D Seeing as I too have one of them old "*******" 50Chryslers, heres me take on all this ****! for now go to the parts store and buy a hand full of studs and nuts. Then take the drums to a RELIABLE machine shop and have the hole drilled out and the studs pressed in!VIOLA! socially acceptable wheel retainers.now, as far as brakes go,MASTER POWER actually has a kit for disc conversion. I saw it used on a 51 plym wagon in Rod & Custom sometime in the last year or so. It used cordoba rotors and callipers I believe.
My plans include a WILCAP adaptor and a th350 or 700r4 swap along with a late model rear with the e-brakes on the drums while keeping the original p-brake handle under the dash and a twleve volt conversion. Ooops , almost forgot,,, FATMAN makes a shock relocation kit for the front of these cars as well. It includes a bracket for the frame to relocate the upper shock mount so it will actually work. I think the engineers who thought of this should have been drug tested for that a-arm to a-arm design! nuff said for now! back later

  8. Not a car I give much of a **** about myself, but I am sure that whatever the Kanter kit comes with will rebuild what the car actually has.

Perhaps that's why he can't find ball joints for it then?

Maybe you could just stub the Chrysler with the '57 Shabby front. Wheelbase would be OK. Hmmmmmm, would that make it a Chrysrolet? or a Chevler?

Hellbound .. I respect you for not selling a gift !!! Some of these guys answering your thread makes it sound like your Friend ( who gave you that `57 ch***ies ) is a know-nutn` , But my guess is that he wanted to help a friend out .. Big time !! . I have driven several Tri-five Chevies , and also driven a nicely restored `51 Dodge , so if a `50 Chrysler rides like that Dodge I once drove , then you surly can benefit from that frame swap you have in mind .
    BTW ... Mr. Links was a problem-maker :D
