After spending countless hours trying to find pictures of K code Vin location on 1966 toploder transmission I am at a loss. I found one pic of the VIN but didn`t show location.I have read it`s stamped on the bottom,at the front ,at the middle,at the rear ,on a boss,on the tailshaft housings so what I`m looking for is pix of an actual 1966 K code trans VIN location.any help would be very much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!Thanks!
My 65 is by the tail shaft at the bottom. You might have a parts counter case. I presume you have located the block VIN. I only mention because a crate block won't be stamped either
http://www.mustangtek.com/toploader/toploader.html http://www.davidkeetoploaders.com/idchart1.htm http://www.mustangandfords.com/how-...-the-ford-top-loader-four-speed-transmission/ 4-SPEED TOPLOADER IDENTIFICATION On the passenger side at the front edge of the main case there is a small metal tag with a HEH or RUG number. This is a list of tag numbers that decode the transmission. The lower number on the tag is the serial number of the transmission in the order it was tagged, it has nothing to do with the serial number of the vehicle the transmission is in.
Thanks for your reply.Yes,I`m aware of this. Most but not all Hi Po engines and trans were stamped with the cars serial number.I`m just looking for pix to compare the location of the stamping to the one I have Thanks.

Something new on me here . I have had a few 428 SCJ , 429 SCJ and Boss 302 trans in my tinkering years of my own , and rebuild a few for friends . I never knew of paid any attention to them being marked as a HIPO application . I have seen the RUG tag and I have one sitting for future use that has the RUG tag also , but again I never seen or paid on bit of attention to the HIPO identification stamped into the case . I do positively know there is a difference in input shaft length . My high school Buddy and I installed a Boss 351 into his Pinto , basically bolt in for kids , he used a big spline close ratio , trans for about 2 months before the front bearing was junk requiring an overhaulin. While I had it down I compared the parts to the small spline toploader from the Mustang the engine came from . Sure enough the input on the Big Spline HIPO trans was shorter where it was supported by the pilot bearing . A little lathe work , produced a custom pilot bearing at the time and he was bangin gears again , until he got into guns and the car exited , running driving looking bad**** , 2 spare engines , 2 spare trans with shifters , 4 set up 9 in gear sets with Detroit Lockers ,2 carbs , all for the huge sum of $3500.00 . Damn those were the days . Ask me who made the most stupid move in the past ?
I`ve owned 62 early Mustangs in my time and never cared about numbers other then MPH! LOL but nowdays it`s big money for the correct numbered stuff! But you are correct Sir,those Were the Days!!!!
I have an original big block 4- speed Mustang and it has a partial vin stamped on the upper edge of the flange on the front of the case. From what I read, some got stamped and some didn't.
Yes,your big block ,I****ume is 67 or newer. They were stamped in a different location then 66 HiPo.Thanks for the reply though.
