Isn't the new Buell using the frame for it's oil tank?

  5. Camel, that blue toyota you posted pics of on the second page, is that your work? I love the subrame with the crown accents for the upper bag perches! I was looking at the pics of your frame again (I'm not saying anything about the steering), and man, that Z is pretty big timer and the crossmember is equally large and distinguised, Anyhow it kind of reminded me of when a friend of mine that has the shop next door to me built a T roadster out of stuff laying around, and I was thinking how jacked up the front looked before he put the engine and trans in it. When he did get the power train in there it settled way more than I thought it would, he ended up having to add a leaf to his spring. So by looking at the front end pic of your frame with the wheels on it and the frame on the ground, once you get some tires under there (I have no idea what the finished diameter of your rolling stock is going to be) you'll maybe add 5" for sidewall? I think 5" may be on the generous side as well, But you may want to try putting the rims up on blocks, and blocking up the rear of the frame to ride height and getting some simulated weight on the front of the thing to see where you wind up?
If you did have to adjust the frame some, I'd take the Z out of it, I like the high arc crossmember. If it were mine I think I'd Take some Z out, (I think it might look kinda goofy with the rails that high next to the engine) I'd run a suicide axle and steering setup, Grille behind the crossmember, and I'd put some staggered sleeved lightening holes in the crossmember, and carry it on to the frame rails, that would give it some flare and make it look a little less like a bunch of 2x3 tube.

thanks pbr allstar. you rock too. great ideas. my front wheels are 21" with tries equal 30" on center hub at 15". those are 16" merc wheels now. center being 8" so that front end actually lifts up 7" almost exactly what you said. funny how 140 other posts cant look at that!the firewall hides 1/2 of that z. so you wont see that much of it. engine is mounted high so the valve covers are at the same height as the cowl. so a tunnel and some daul quads will be upper section of the windshield. with velocity stacks over the top of the roof.SICK. the front of the frame i have ideas to cut and support that front x member to look like a pair of brass knuckles. it looks good in my head. and on paper. so i'll try to fab it and see' if it looks like shit, cut it out & try something else. problem is its 118 degrees today and will be 125 for 3 months. so the car gets worked on 2 hours about 10pm. then off to work all day again. so suspension and body mounting first, pretty stuff later. thanks again!!

I thought Hot rods were all originally built for speed, takes alot of $ to make any flat head fast, sbc are really common but they flat out work, and besides the guy can always change it later, change is what makes hot rods fun, fat old geezers with bad attitudes and no go and no show can eat a fat one!! Viva la Camelto!!

dude you so rock, ahahah and by the way guys he is one of my personal friends,, well i think he is, but he knows what hes doing when it comes to frame work. and i think his ideas are kinda corny on the bags to but to each his own. its funny hes been askin me alot of questions and i actually showed him this site, now i feel kinda bad. and yea his towing company is actually called camel towing, but dont worry guys the car will come out fine. and jesus some of you guys need to step down off your high fuckin horse and deal with life, people are gonna build what you dont like, and not everyone wants to hear 30 comments about the same thing and then when he asks about how it should be done he doesnt get an answer. just cause it doesnt look like yours doesnt mean its not good.

    I agree.

    1949- Gowjob
    2006- Rat Rod

I kinda like the term "rat". Used it within the scooter/bike culture for years! "ratbike" is a term of endearment to me!

Grow up guys. Sounds like a buncha women in here!

Well my 2 cents. whats the deal as long as it ain't rollin 26" boyds and it somewhat resembles a traditional/hot/rat rod whatever ya want to tag your car as. The guy has fabrication skills and he is wanting some information suggestions not to be bashed to death. Look at the gas monkey garage bull run winner its bagged its cool or it is in my opinion. the way i see it if it offends you why even post just go to another thread, others might like to see the build up of something different. The term rat is used so much nowdays that it is in alot of areas just a term to describe a old car that has the look of not being finished call it what you will build with what you have and or can score or afford. My buddy built the 36 truck that billy gibbons bought and is now showing around i posted pics in another thread they call em rats down here so f&$@ing' what doesnt hur my feelings and it didnt hurt Kirbys when Billy bought his RAT. Let the guy build it his way maybe you'll like it maybe you won't but i'll tell you what any car you'll find something YOU would do different and well if we were all the same we would drive build the same shit how frigging boring would that be? I'll probably get flack for this as i am a FNG and an ex Minitrucker as well so friggin what as long as the owner is happy that is what it is all about. Dare to be different, think out side the box as long as your in the garage building. HOW ABOUT THIS a place on the board for builds THat dont quite fit the bill but are built by hamber's. BTW half the 30 something guys that are building "traditional" cars used to be Minitruckers and we are the future so quit bashing and help educate in the traditional ways of building cars at least wants to build it and not buying it like the gold chain gangers. Roth didn't follow the rules and no body is bashing him coil sprung straight axle -traditional then ?

any way quit bitchin and get building.
