Avatar daily with my kiddo in her car seat or a 52 GMC if I'm alone. Year round no matter the weather. Salt takes it's toll but these things are made to be driven. Fix them and keep going. The Buick is the family road trip car because of the size. It's been from Wisconsin to Texas and is driven to the in-laws, 4 hours away, about monthly. I got the RPU on the road in the fall and immediately started putting it to use running errands. The GMC might be neglected come warmer weather.
Since mine is not back together yet, I take my bike out for many of the same reasons y'all drive your rods. Clears my head, puts a smile on my face and is not the normal grind.
i drive one of these everyday...but the light blue pick up mostly as it is my first ground up build...so am more attached to that one and have done about 120,000 klm in 9 years then the darker blue one is a recently finished car and done about 8000 km in the first year then there's my vicky that fills in between everything else
Back in 2010 Rod & Custom wanted the Chevy in the GNRS so headed out for Pomona.. 50 miles down the snow packed Hwy 97...Oops in the ditch...Do I go home or get out and go 800 more miles? AAA, ..1 hour later and on down the road...DRIVE 'EM... And SALT you say ? Car was at B'ville at LEAST 7 or 8 times and it hasn't melted yet. I put over 100,000 miles on it... New owner had it in the GNRS this year 2019..still DRIVEN

I'm very impressed with some of you running up serious crazy miles.. posting that stuff is good for the future of rodding & kustoms IMO. around 15 years ago when I was using a 57 VW sunroof as a daily, I was at a highway gas station in a February blizzard type storm and a slightly older guy from M*** pulled in with a super mint 36 Ford tudor rod. He was alone, and told me "I'm going to Florida for a vacation". Stuff like that you'll never forget. .
I just got back from grocery shopping with mine. Sheesh, a quick trip takes a hour or two when people gather at the car to talk car stuff...but i'm not complaining at all... I sure could use those rear tires with all the mud here lately. .
proud to say I have driven my 40 Ford at least one day each month since finishing it spring of 2013...some days have been cold, 2nd pic is people ice fishing Jan 2017, last pic is a hot rod run from Omaha to Lincoln Oct 2017 with starting temp of 21, some very hot, driven from Omaha to Denver & Omaha to Minneapolis for shows, drove it from St Louis to Omaha when I bought it...moved to Denver in Sept while car is still in Omaha but will be coming here in April.
Can’t remember his handle but My buddy Bret down in Springfield has been putting roughly 300 days a year behind the wheel of a 40 ford this last two years between his two! I’ll try to find his name and tag him
My '55 F100 is still 'down' after tearing (ripping, actually) the brackets out of an 'accessory' tube engine cross member. Made a new tube, (.187" wall D.O.M. 'roll bar' tubing, still have to remove front 'clip' (fenders/hood/grille) for clean access to frame. Forced to drive wife Joey's other BMW, a '95 325 convert with lotsa engine, 5 speed, Koni front/rear, low... but Fun... ALWAYS drive my F100, receiver on rear has a cast iron head of 'Mr. Prohibition', with his stovepipe hat. Mr.P. has an open mouth to remove caps from beer bottles at 'tailgate events'! I wear a stovepipe hat sometimes when driving, my seats are low, so plenty of 'hatroom'. Little kids always spot it, (character on back...and the one driving!) Wife Joey loves it, the instant throttle response, quick steering...axle suspension... She looks good in there, too. Without the hat!
In the driving months, April through October, I’ll drive my 37 anywhere and every chance I get. The only down side to my new job is working from home there’s no commute, so I can’t drive it to work. But now? Nope. It’s winter. The roads are heavily salted. Last week it was -30F and I didn’t leave the house for four days. That was followed by an ice storm, leaving 1/4” of ice on everything. Not driving anything anywhere if I don’t have to. If I have to, it’s the rusty 4WD truck. Couple weeks it’ll start warming up. Gotta get the engine put back together for April. We drive our 35 coupe most of the year except in winter salt. We turned 200,000 miles in it as of last summer. A milestone for the old coupe.
That is amazing... talk about grabbing life for all it's worth. You must have done a great job in building/designing it to where you wanted to drive it that many miles. If they gave out ''report cards" at the end of life, that would score pretty much up top ...in my mind.
Mine gets driven unless there is a ****-ton of brine or salt on the roads. It rained yesterday and today so the next nice day I'll be out in my car. I take it grocery shopping, to the gym, to chase car parts. With the cold weather and an air gap intake, it takes a while to warm up and stay warm. It cools off fairly fast. I have a manual choke, don't use it that much. I give it a few minutes to warm up. I had it out a couple of weeks ago when it was around 8.
Just so you didn’t think I was fibbing about the amount of salt on the road. This is a dried puddle from one tire on the daily. No snow or ice coming down that day, just a little slush spraying up from the road.
I stayed home working yesterday, but ran errands & visiting some store owners late Friday. I watch the weather and snow is coming for Tuesday, so I plan any errands and then I don't drive during the bad slop. I'm 67...and can't afford a different driver right now....and love driving this car anyways. Life is short. The car should outlast me, despite a bit of rust here and there. I simply don't give a **** about wet roads.... because this car keeps me wanting to stay "above the dirt". What good is a car you can't use? .
