Tried a search but nothing came up for steel...Replacing the steel head gaskets in my rod, is there a sealant/spray to use?
I've never torn an engine down this far and never heard of a .015" gasket being used.
    Thnx.

copper coat spray, or permatex aviation sealer brushed on around the water jacket holes, should do the job.

I've had pretty good luck with Coppercoat spray too,
Go a little heavy and install wet

Just did one with a .015 steel shim gasket. Used Permatex Copper Spray-A-Gasket 80697. No problems.

In the past when I was in a bind I have used silver spray paint. It is slow drying and gives plenty of time to get the head torqued. No leaks later.

But K&W Copper Coat is my preferred sealant for steel shim head gaskets.

Again...Copper Coat. Spray or brush on.
Spray is best for a head gasket.
Best stuff out there. It stays mostly semi fluid for years. Remove a head five years down the road, the stuff is still a bit sticky. The copper fills most voids.

The copper spray was all we used on boats. May have been a Permatex marine product, but it worked.

I've used a liberal coat of high temp aluminum paint use while the paint was still wet. Iron heads only.
