Holy crap, I already stated that i am more than capable of doing the work to get anything done. It sounds like you are complaining now, that i didn't say the right things on this forum. Sent from my SM-G935V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
There really isn't a market for repro parts for these. These cars are getting really old, lots of them have been crushed and those of us interested in them are getting really old too. I'm starting to realize that if I don't get parts that are now available, I won't be able in the future either because the guys making and selling them might not be around.
Yep.....not just Pontiacs...........ALL makes are affected, maybe Ford less so, but inexorably, parts availability will decline. Just had this conversation with a friend yesterday. A couple years ago I happened onto a pair of '38 Buick front fenders, my car doesn't need them at the moment, but it might at some time. I bought them and put them on the shelf.
Less stuff out there for the Buicks too but I think that makes the finds that much more exciting. They are more rare. Plus it makes the car more unique. Not many people have seen a straight 8. They usually think its a six. Originally I planned to drop a 455 into my 51. I got the straight 8 running and it was just so cool and I fell in love with it. Would still like to hot rod it someday but with the straight 8 in it. There are guys on here who have already done it and they are the real hotrodders.. I get more looks with my Buick than anything I have ever owned and it is not a shiny car or fast car. Straight 8 and 3 on the tree. It's nostalgic. Your car is beautiful by the way. Have fun with it and make it yours.
If you really want to show these old Poncho's some love give them a later model Pontiac 389, 400, 421, 455 V8 engine swap. You can do all possible to those straight eight's and a Soccer Mom in a 4 cylinder Camry will still blow the doors off your old Poncho.
Thanks, i do enjoy the straight 8 and the 3 on the tree Sent from my SM-G935V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
This is my Pontiac Convertible been wanting to split the manifold as well thanks for the info I also have a straight 8
Unfortunately it's a matter of lack of demand - there just aren't that many people with pre 1954 Pontiacs to support a big aftermarket. Ames Performance has a few things but mainly they cater to the V8 era. One place you can try is California Pontiac Restoration / CPR : http://www.pontiacparts.net They seem to carry more parts for early Pontiacs than anyone else. This is a 1936 Pontiac I saw at a local show some years back. It was being built by a shop that's since gone out of business, so I don't know if it ever got finished. It was a six cylinder car, they had a cool twin carb Edmunds intake manifold on it.
Pontiac and Olds shared chassis that year. My bud Bobby Souza pulled his blown up '49 Pontiac straight 8 on a Friday, lowered a '51 Olds V8 in on the holes the factory had drilled. Pontiac was running Saturday evening, went to muffler shop Monday morning. BOLT-IN! Santa Clara, CA. 1958.
Cool intake, indeed! Note the nipple at the rear corner (there is another at the front), for attaching water hoses for manifold heat!
I actually have another Pontiac a 1936 Pontiwillys Coupe. It is a little different but the love is strong! Gary
Beautiful car. Do your thing to it. No matter what others think. I did to mine. Sure is not a belly button Ford with a Chevy! Ben
You are likely going to have to find vintage hop up goodies, but hey that makes it that much cooler! GM's Pontiac Bonneville H.A.M.B Dragster
I would be all in on a dual carb intake and a dual exhaust manifold for an in-line 8 if someone wants to share a design...… or maybe even build some..... Hey, any of you 49-52 Pontiac guys need a pair of NOS front fenders?
If you are talking about Union Speed & Style out of Monticello it appears as if they bought a old Ford dealership in downtown Osseo. Big into building bikes too, have had some magazine coverage. Instagram and facebook posts leave me to believe they are still in business. Never had anything done there but metal work and fabrication appear second to none.
I like Pontiac. I drove a 70' 442 with a 455 and burned the piss out of the tires. Nice car by the way
Straight 8 is cool by anyone's standard but Pontiac made lots of cool engine stuff over the years and all it takes is a little desire to find what you need. Every year at Pate Swap meet i see several induction/exhaust set ups for the old in-liners. Some need some love and most are overpriced but you can still find that stuff. A lot of Pontiac guys are hoarders in the sense they buy it up when they see it, but most will part with their treasures if they think someone will put it to good use. Not an in-liner, but this is my Pontiac build.............
you goof balls in my post I said 442 with a 455 ( olds ) no one caught this? Or if you did you didn't say anything I do still like Pontiac cars I almost bought a 46/47?? My wife said no! Imagine that
Right on but the 442! my bad for putting olds in the wrong spot. Regardless of my goof and my reading abilities the Pontiac's in the post are still cool
Kinda off topic, but years ago my dad made a header for some guys that were racing a Buick straight-8 on some kind of round or oval track, think it was in Castlegar, BC. He was a welder but if you can weld and carve metal, it shouldn't be that big a deal to build your own header and/or intake manifold.
Although my avatar is my 40 Ford, my other car is a 55 Oldsmobile Super 88. I like a stock Olds with small factory part up grades from 56 and 57 Olds that would be considered performance for the time. More for reliability and driving comfort.
