Brian have you mentioned yet what time to get to the track on Sunday. We have a wedding Saturday about 3 hours north. We are taking the Cobra with us and headed your direction late Saturday night.

  2. I will check with Tyler but I would assume 7am the gates should open. I cant wait to see the new car run. If it's anything like the old one it should be a great show.

Well of course as usual you forget to mention the parameters of that race. It was not who got to the finish first it was who got all four wheels the furthest off the ground. So obviously I won and there is quite a bit of video evidence to back me up. Anyone can just roll straight down the strip. LMAO

  5. I was wondering? I gather that the classes will be based on what was used in 1962 when the Track opened. However that doesn't tell me anything I was 11 in 62. How about some info on what the classes will be and the rules ect?

  6. The race is eigth mile.
The classes are based off 1/2 second indexes.
Make some test passes. Then enter into the class that best represents your average et.
    Everything is run heads up.
If you run faster than the class index you loose. If both cars go too fast they both loose.
The tree has only one staging light not two.
The tree goes yellow green. That's it.
There is a area for water burnouts. Bring your own water. Old anti freeze jugs work great. The track has no running water.
It front of that is a area for vht burnouts again bring your own. A large squirt bottle works good for this. This is optional.
Dry hops can be done prior to staging.

I would recommend hitting the in memory of George ray on Facebook to watch some videos on how they do things. It's hard core racing at its best.
While it may seem strange the way things are done it's easy to catch on and alot of fun. The sterile conditions of your local track will quickly become a faded memory as soon as the first pair come to the water box.
I keep saying it's really something everyone needs to experience at least once. Run for fun or run for the money either way you will leave with a appreciation for the way drag racing once was. A experience that can only happen at this track.
As far as rules go the track is non sanctioned. If the car can pass tech at your local track you shouldn't have a problem. The safety of the car is up to the driver. There isn't a tech area.

  7. Image-1.jpg a recent flyer found on Facebook. Its shaping up to be a big event. Several car clubs are caravanning to the track.

  8. Here's the flyer for Saturday. All cars are welcome to race. It would be a great way to get some extra track time. With the extra money for the payouts the action should be hot. The normal Sunday program was moved to Saturday. received_2157918337636606_1551481301870_001.jpeg

Little thunder is coming back out. It has not raced in over 20 years. This car was a local terror. Very fast. It will be fun to watch.

  10. Sunday's flyer. There's three hours of time trials for us. We can do photo ops prior to time trials if guys want a starting line pic. received_2628576027156947.jpeg

  12. cool. its good you are showing up early. its going to be crowded in the pits. the event looks like its going to be quiet a show. if everyone shows up that says they will its going to be a barn burner of a event. the t shirt design is going through its final revision. we want the shirt to be a perfect collectable.

Not sure how Tyler will handle that, just show up and see would be my advice. In the days prior to George's passing, you could drive down track during time trials. Your paying to watch allowed you access to time trials for your car. There was no entry fee. The spectators paid the way for the racers by there purchase of a ticket is the way George always referred to it. There is also the BIG question of how many cars are going to be there. You only have so many cars you can get down a track in your limited time trials 3 or 4 hours.

  16. The flier says they open at 8am. Time trials at 11am. I have been in close contact with Tyler this whole time. There may be some changes to the schedule depending on how many cars show up. All times are are approximate at this time. Everything is subject to change. Whatever it takes to make it run as smooth as possible will be done. The worm farm across the street is allowing spectator parking. Extra staff will be on hand to assist in parking the race cars. Extra porta potties are being brought in. Extra food will be on hand. Chuck jolliff will be flagging the cars as he did for many years. Parking on Thursday is allowed for the weekend. Many things are being done to accommodate ths expected large crowd and racers. The track will adapt as best as possible. The main thing is relax and have fun at this historic track. Take in everything this unique place has to offer.
Spectator fees will remain the same all weekend. Time trials are included.
Saturday's money race entry fee is as shown on the flyer. The payouts are much higher.
Sunday's entry into the money race is still ten dollars plus your entry fee. As I planned the event with Tyler we agreed we could charge more money. But we wont.
We are keeping it the way George would have wanted it.

This is Charles Jolliff. I worked for George Ray as starter, announcer, finish line light, well, you name it, I probably did it, for almost 30 years. I tried posting some 1963 video of George's track here, but files are too big. I run a Facebook page, In Memory Of George Ray. If you go there you will see the track in 1963.

  25. Wow! Thank you so much for sharing those pictures on the web! Please don't think I'm taking any credit for these beautiful pictures. I just wanted to share them directly with the HAMB family. I'm so excited to see that historic place for myself! I hope Mr. Ray would be proud of us.
