A garage companion for my coupe. A roadster. A BLACK roadster. Everything black. Tall bias ply tires, steelies, frame, body, interior, w/s frame, engine, alternator, headlights......everything black. The only thing not black is the Moon tank that sits on my shelf looking at me and asking me for a new ride. If this quarter turns out as expected, it'll be started this summer with the goal of driving it to Bonneville in August '07.

I have had a certain Texas mid 60's built 50' Ford straight axle in my mind for a year now. I havn't had any takers on the GMC yet so I am going over today to see the car again. He says he will trade me a couple of project cars and some cash for my truck.

SO... we'll see what happens I guess.:D If all goes well we will have a 59' bug straight axle, a 50' Ford straight axle and a yet to be disclosed mystery car. All projects!

And I havn't even scratched the surface on the list I have in the back of my mind.

I really could benifit from a litle therapy.

  3. I really just want one of my cars on the road. I don't care how fast it goes or what it looks like, I just want to be able to drive one.

This topic came up about 4 years ago... and my answer was the same then (but it's gonna happen one of these days! :D )

Two hot rods on the road (actually my wifes is a street rod), four waiting in the wings and a modified project in the planning stages (and I still want to build an airplane) I've convinced myself I'm perfectly normal and the rest of the world has a problem:eek: :)

What's floating in my mind is also gettin dad's affairs in order so i can have my time/sanity back. Have lots of family and NO help, so **** em I guess. Once that's behind me, I have a 56 Bel Air HT to tub for a friend, my 54 Chev PU to chop and possibly section (I really love the look of the friggen hood lately!!), and have a ginormous yearn for a big GM custom. I also have the hots for an early Ford. I dream of this **** day-in, day-out. My mind is bracket racin itself. The real struggle is that 40hrs a week I do the same kind of work for my employer. Currently a 65 GTO. Last year a Shelby conv. Always some ******** hot rod type stuff (mostly newer...yuk!) comin in the shop. Then I want to pick up a pinstriping brush once and for all. Sometimes I'm in the zone and sometimes not. Then there's art...what the **** is wrong with me?

Well, the Model A coupe is my main priority right now, after that, in no particular order.....

I have a '70 Challenger I have been pushing around the garage for a couple years, and I think I finally want to get it going again. I've already gathered the parts for a *****en' Paxton supercharged 360 with an OD four speed and 3.91 limited slip, but I have the skills to turn the flat hood into a Shaker, and a '70 Challenger with a Shaker needs at least a 440 Six Pack, which I don't have, so I don't know. On the back burner it sits....

Also need to build a truck worth building. I have to pull the drivetrain and stuff from my uber-beater '73 Chevy C-10 to put into my '57 Chevy shortbed, and after that runs and does it's truckly duties, sell off my '64 El Camino, and drag the '73 off to the recycler....

I still have that '52 Plymouth Business coupe that I'm not really into rebuilding (I pulled the Chrysler 383 out for the Model A!) right now, but I'm not sure if I want to sell it yet. Probably should sell, but I hacked the frame all up making it into a "g***er", so it will be hard to sell. It's got current registration and no drivetrain. Way to go, stupid! 8(

  8. Yep, same deal, I have 3 project cars, (and collecting parts for a boat) the one I really want the most is last on the list. Gotta finish the ones I'm willing to sell first. Then there's all the other peoples ****. I'm going to have to live to at least 140 just to get started on the Falcon again:rolleyes:

    it's called visualizing
it's the most important part of any build, it happens first in your head

I can see working on several projects, some I have now,
some I would like to have

it's visualizing the time to make them happen that's tough

  10. OATMEAL:eek: lol Seriously I would love to fire up my 56 chevy thats been in hibernation since 94 and burn the hides off

That's where I'm at right now. I've got literally 20 cars right now, and although some are shiney and run, NONE of them are roadworthy. Sitting here in front of the computer, I got the bearings straighened out in the alternator that was holding up my new daily driver ('73 Mercedes diesel, kinda gay but at this point I'll drive anything pre 1990) and every other car has at least one or two little things that need to be fixed if they're going to get driven.

I'm putting my huge, long term projects aside to get the little ******** ones done on the cars that are close to driveable. Shoulda done that a long time ago. It's already June, I thought I'd be swapping around between 4 or 5 driveable cars by now.

I have in the back of my head plans for a car to run the Silver State Cl***ic Challenge with. Not really "hotrod" material, but a '86 Monte Carlo SS, with a full tube ch***is, Nascar style, and about 8-900 hp BBC. It should be capable of 220 mph+. I'm hoping anyway. I havent takin any steps toward it yet, as I want to have all the money to do it right. I dont want to get it and run out of money, or carry it around for years to get it done.

Someday it'll have it, other more important things right now.

  13. I build about 3-4 cars in my head every day!! Building a real one seems to take longer.

    Ha Ha...Larry put it well!:D

I think all car folks do that...some more than others, but all to some degree.

It's what keeps me doing what I'm doing at any given moment...working on that Ford, hauling parts, hitting my local source for super deals on parts every weekend, collecting odds & ends for a period correct ride I have mapped out in my head...you know, chasing that Dream!

I scored good last weekend, came home with lotsa goodies...some dude was practically GIVING speed parts and Chevy stuff away that I couldn't p*** up! It'll all get used by Summer's end!

Of course, little side projects like the BMX bike pop up here and there, but they're fun little diversions! I've already put a good 20 miles under the wheels of that GT/Dyno and it's a blast to ride!

I have been dreaming of a few projects lately.

recently got the hots to do a 356 porsche coupe in a 60's style, chrome rims, pinstripe whitewalls, lowering and some kind of pearl/candy paint.. the way someone with money living in the Hollywood hills may have done when new.. (you know how they would take a gullwing and turn it into a custom)

Still got the hots to do a pre 65 chevy convert... (nova, impala or chevelle but leaning toward Impala or Nova... hammered on airbags, a set of PS Engineering natural finished 5 spoke in a 16" or17" (or maybe a set of the new Real Wheels), hot 427ci sbc and a 5 sp.... Doesnt hurt that the wife wants one also..

'53 Studebaker CHOPPED with a big-*** motor, maybe gonna put me in the 200mph club on the dry lakes. It's an idea i had a long time ago. It's on my list of "things to do before i die". gotta finish my truck though...one project at a time....

  19. Always. Truth be known, I don't get as much enjoyment out of owning hot rods as I do building them, and a major part of enjoying the builds are the "hunts".

It's literally ALL I can do to stay focused on the work in front of me, so I have to park future projects & daydreams in the back of my head! The biggest blessing most hot rodders have is probably the biggest pratfall as well!.....a wild imagination.....but remember: without our dreams, we're merely driftwood in the sea of life! Try to stay focused. Simply appreciate the gift you've been given. Finish what you have already started....and Good Luck!

Had a 53 chevrolet coupe painted Dust Plum metalic with reversed wheel and a gold and gray noggie interior when I was a kid .Spent most of my time daydreaming about building a hot rod model A sedan. I got the A sedan now and I daydream about building a 53 chevy coupe.
