[ QUOTE ] A friend of one of the guys in my car club OWNS IT !! [/ QUOTE ] No disrespect to your friend, but I'm still waiting to see an incarnation of the Deora that isn't "homely." I understand it's coolness from a nostalgic/ground breaking standpoint, but I just can't get into the looks of the thing. On a side note, I saw the Rides episode and was wondering what was up with the faux-supercharger? Couldn't they figure out a way to hook up a real supercharger to that Caddy Northstar? (It wouldn't be the first). http://www.caddyinfo.com/northstarsupercharger.htm
I think a lot of people, young people just getting started in rodding or cars at all, look in here and take what's said and suggested as all being really good ideas. Well, for the most part they are, but every once in a while some things get said that aren't and if they're downright dangerous I'm sure you agree that a note to that effect is warranted. do you think that when a fuse blows it would be a good idea to stick needle nose pliers in place of the fuse and look for the smoke?
I am not sure if anyone really answered your question Straycat... Harry Bradley was the original designer of the Deora. In fact Mike and Larry Alexander used to have Harry provide design direction on many of their cars coming from their shop. The clean crisp lines of many of the 'A' Bros customs was due to the keen eye from Harry.
I kinda remember back in mid/late 70s going to world of wheels show in Phila & seeing it. Was supposedly owned by a friend of a guy we hung out with. If I remember correctly, it had just been painted Root Beer ? Steve
yes, it used to be brown. for the life of me, i can't imagine why anyone would think that was a good idea. it was in truckin" magazine in this color.
Yea.... It's the REAL ONE !! (Least it's supposta' be...sure as hell LOOKS real...slight 'patina" and all...) Jersey Skip
Al Davis owns the original and I saw it last weekend in the Peterson Museum. Still looks great. For what it's worth I've got a friend that lives here in Mass that used to live in Detroit and design interiors for Ford and AMC. On the side he did artwork for the A Brothers in exchange for work on his 60 Plymouth business coupe. At the 50th Cobo show I had Mike and Larry sign a poster made from an article in one of the "small mags" on the Plymouth. Really shocked Mike and Larry to see the car and hear about Jack again. Hey...how about this: I'm building a Deora replica, and I've actually considered the windshield issue too. I believe what I'll probably have to do is adhere a piece of clear adhesive to the inside of the tempered glass that was a rear window. Other than that, I'd gladly accept anyboy's offer to build a custom laminated windshield for me!!
