Projects 33 Chevy Sedan w/ 346 Caddy Flatty

Here we go... just bought a 1933 Chevy sedan and planning to rebuild this 346 to go in it. Planning to mainly build it as a TROG car. I know they don’t really allow sedans unless heavily modified and chopped so looking to do what it takes to get it there.

Never done something on this level, my 66 C20 wasn’t this custom and extensive as a build. Looking forward to it though!

Anyways, does the engine turn? or is it stuck?

 

Yeah they have a flathead v8 class. I have one from a car and one from a tank, the tank one turns but the car one doesn’t, I’ll be breaking it all down to free it up

 

Since parts are expensive, and you probably won't put a lot of miles on the car, you might want to take your time about deciding how much rebuilding you want to do, vs. just getting it running.

But if you have a few grand you want to spend on the motor anyways, carry on....

 

Weld the back doors shut , remove the second side window pillars on both sides ,chop the car ,then fill in the rear with a panel as in panel truck.

Pretty set on breaking it all down and rebuilding it right.

 

I was considering that, we’ll see. Will probably decide and do that last.

What type of blowers work on these flatheads?

If you do you won't see the competition falling behind......Look forward to this...more diversity in Hotrods for those that enjoy this stellar event...sort of a 'Baby Cad'...with attitude.

 

I would recommend for You to take a look at the website, follow the rules and build accordingly. The TROG guys seems to select cars for different reasons beside just the rules-but it helps to at least fit within them. Most most of them definitely follow a set of guidelines which is not the the same as here.

I would also try to get out to TROG next week and study all the cars that made it in.
As a back up. You can do the RPM nationals. You may also run at the Mooneyes Xmas show. But again both those shows will require a whole different set of qualifications to enter.

 

Hoping to go see it next week, we are only a couple weeks in with our first baby boy so we’ll see if we are getting a little more sleep by then haha.

Looks like the 471 is what I’m seeing is the main blower guys are using on the flat cads, still need to do more research. Or get chatting with one of the guys on here that’s already done it all.

you better look hard at the rules for TROG, the cars being run at Santa Barbra this weekend do not fall into the same rules as it does in Wildwood, Santa Barbra is allowing OHV motors up to 55 in it. they wont be doing that on the beach in OCT. Yes that Caddy flathead would be killer to run on the beach in the flathead class, but a 34 Chevy 4 door is about as far away from what they want to run as you can get, so be prepared to cut the hell out of that car.

They have so many people enter now, that they are turning people away that have some killer stuff. they can only take so many entries, the tides on the beach dictate how long they can run and its tough getting everyone as many runs as they like.

I would suggest that you build it to suit what you want, not to fit into a race that they may not accept your entry. I think that car with the Cad motor would be super cool, but make it where you can drive it. Myself as a single dad with 2 kids, you are gonna want to take you kid with and that back seat will be real nice. I hardly drive my roadster anymore, because I cant take both boys with me....

 

I agree, part of the reason I went with this car is to have it cruise able with the fam. Will take it as far as I can without sacrificing the ability to still do that. Still gonna give the TROG Route a shot though, if anything it’ll still be a good ride to take to the events.
