Was looking on summits website looking for things to buy to rebuild my 283 and stumbled upon these. I thought Cal Custom went out of business in the 80's, or is that just me and theyre still around? http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=CAL%2D196181&N=4294925232+4294839018+4294919746+4294908395+4294880877+4294908216+4294924455+4294840117+401095+115&autoview=sku Take a look for yourself. -John
Yes, Cal Custom faded away many years ago. The new stuff Summit is selling is made with completely new tooling and most likely made in China. It's easy to see the differences. Here are some of my old Cal Custom parts: NOS original seven-fin, sand-cast valve cover 1960s six-fin, die-cast valve covers NOS 1960s valve covers for big-block Chevy 14" air cleaner top and NOS base Dave Mann (602) 233-8400 weekdays http://www.roadsters.com/
Sorry to hijack, but did they ever make those valve covers for post-'68 Olds engines? I've looked and can't find them.
I saw a good original pair at a swap meet a few weeks ago for $400. Are they really worth that? They were the cheapest you could buy at one time... for people who wished for edelbrock script but didn't have the dough.
I saw a few guys at the mini nats selling them for 135 bucks. They looked pretty good to me. The company was like prc or some random 3 letter acronym. The thing I hated abot the originals was there was no lip for a gasket, they always slide around on the v/c. The Edelbrock I bought for the fly seal really well.
Well, I only want to pay $89.95. I'm going to Wal-Mart. Dave Mann (602) 233-8400 weekdays http://www.roadsters.com/
rpc sound right .....they had them at the hot rod and resto show at indy a couple months back .....they are on the lines of wysco......importers....brandon
So are these even worth it, or should i splurge for a set of offys or edlebrocks? If they seal well i might go for em but if they dont, offys it is. -John
Actually, the covers Summit is selling look more like Moon covers than the old Cal Customs. Charlie Price is peddling Cal Custom repops.
If you use our FelPro #1628 Valve Cover Gaskets, they will seal it and you'll never have to buy another set.
Yup, not sure who is making Vintage Speed's covers, but they're almost dead replicas for 7 fin Cal's. Those that Summit sells just look weird.
