I'm looking to put a bench seat in this truck. It's got buckets now and I'm looking for three up seating. Belts for the car seat maybe.
Anyone done this and been happy with the choice. No glides, or teas designs. Too rich for a poor old guy

I used a bench seat out of a 1988 regular cab s-10. Fits awesome. I was told that 1982-1993 S-10 benchseats are all the same.

Why not use an original bench? Then you know it'll fit right.

The best seat is one that is about 55-56" wide. The seats in the S-10s are at the most 50 inches which leaves lots of extra room between the seat and the door in my opinion. I found a seat from a 70 Thunderbird that is a split bench with arm rest. It has the metal skirts and backs with chrome trim. Hoping to get it recovered and installed soon.

The seats from GM G- body (Cutl***/Regal/Monte Carlo/Malibu/Grand Prix are another option but they also are 48-50 inches wide.

I did see one truck use the center seat from a 90-99 suburban. It seem to fit well and gave good access under and behind. It did not slid forward though.

I agree with you. I want the seat as wide as possible....not that I'm that wide mind you,
Just as soon not rub thighs with my buddies as we head for a swao meet y'know. It's ok if yer hauling a few sweet young things though.

I agree it does leave some room on the sides open, but at the same time you get more leg room because the back of the seat is a lot thinner. Also it folds forward, makes a nice place to store ****.

Dodge Dakota works pretty good. Some of them have a center fold down arm rest. My brother likes to use the ones out of the older Chrysler K car series.

....3rd seat from an Astro Van/ GMC Safari van fits perfect, seatback is thin, it folds flat onto seat cushion and if you hinge the seat at the front you can still use the under-seat area for storage. ...mount the seat to the orig. Chevy seat pan surround. (remove the Astro Van seat base)

I used 92 chev full size. The front corners hit the doors just a little. I trimmed the seat down (just in front) when I had it recoverd. I like how thin the seat is and with the tank gone it slides way back. Sorry but I dont have a good picture of it.

My husband just picked up a 1952 Chev pickup, loving this forum for all the info, thank you for sharing all your knowledge.
We are looking at replacing the seat as currently it only has top portion. I like the idea of using a van seat or other...what kind of modification are needed to be able to use this. Can we use the original frame and some how attach a seat?
Thanks for any advise you can offer.

Welcome aboard. I believe mini van seats are made (second and third rows) to be removable , so you are going to have to modify the base mounts. I like those trucks and it will be a fun hot rod for you both. If you list where you are located someone here may be able to help.

The most obvious problem is you need to get the seat you want so you can look at what needs to be done mounting wise. Different manufacturers most likely have their own style of mounts.

If you go to the AD social group there is a posting on modifying the late 80's truck seat to fit. Even if it is not what you go with the basics should apply to whatever you do go with.

I have a bench seat out of a Ford (Mazda) courier pick up in my 54 Chevy truck. Just a hair narrow but works fine.

1988-1998 Chevy/GMC full size pickup bench seats are a popular choice. Easy to bolt-in, fit nice, they're comfortable and cheap. If you remove the gas tank from behind the seat you'll pickup a few more inches of leg room too. Had mine reupholstered and love it.

Lot of options. I've had 4 of these trucks, always liked the original- if you can find one worth redoing.

I used an original seat frame. Cut the mounting tabs off of the springs and mounted them to a plywood board, then built up the seating surface with foam. The back is only about 3" thick, but still plenty comfortable. The seat has two foam densities - the bottom being harder - this is the bottom layer and there's a 2" layer that goes on top of that.

I'm 6'3" and 235# and this gives me quite a bit of room in the cab

I'm with Rusty1, an Astro van, way back seat, is a great seat for your truck. Folds over, thin back (goes back farther) and is very comfortable. It's an easy unbolt from the Astro and a great pedistal that is super easy to fit to your truck. And if you spend more than $15.00 for it, you've spent too much!! Got one in my Avatar truck for 18 years. Love it!!!! Bill

All good answers....if you use a mini van second row seat you usually get built in shoulder belts also, a plus in my book.

Hey Rick S, Thank you for posting your pictures! They helped me decide which seat I was going to put in my truck. I ***ume you had to cut out the original seat pan, did you have to cutout the whole thing? Or just portions?
    Thanks

Hi Rick S , the seats that you found in the 1988-1998 , may I ask what kind of full size Chevy/ gmc you found it in and does it bolt straight to the original seat frame? I have a 1950 3100 and looking for seats and I like the fitment or yours . Thanks for posting the picture. It help me decide what the get.
