See, that's where it all falls down as far as I'm concerned.... I can't walk away from ANY car once I've seen it.....

That makes sense about the roofline. I don't dislike it, it just looks out of proportion a little or something.

No doubt it would be more sold than the Comet. it would have to be less rattly anyway!!

Ok, found another possible, maybe, trade. I keep asking about these old cars because I don't really know much about them, and you guys do, so feel free to tell me to stop asking, or I'm an idiot.....

This is a 46 Ford roller, may be able to work in a SBC and turbo 350 trans. 10 bolt rear end. Interior is all out, started a new wiring harness, mustang 2 front end, leaf springs in the rear, Comp Engineering kits he said. Brake lines run mostly, frame painted, body seems to be in really good shape, has old enamel paint. He has all the interior stuff supposedly. Hoping for a straight up trade for my Comet, or at most 1000 on my end with the eng end trans. Said he has a ***le for it. Any thoughts? 01515_93kOmH2Y5Za_1200x900.jpg

With no more details to go on, it sounds and looks like a decent start with potential.

Thanks! That's kinda what I was thinking. Seems like the "hard" parts are done.

He's got some bucket seats for the front, and the stock frame and springs, the rear seat is a funky red velvet, but I guess it would work. I'll probably need to come up with carpet I think, a little welding here and there, then finish wiring, brake lines, and put the whole thing back together.

One thing I noticed is that there aren't any parking lights up front? Maybe a previous owner removed them?

hmmmmmm!........I think I have a brand new pair of Bob Drake reproduction '47/'48 front park lights left over from my '47 Coupe project of several years ago. Maybe a few other NORS small bits and pieces too. ;)

Ahh, might have to talk to you about that stuff if the deal happens. Where are the lights supposed to be? The pictures of 46s I've seen have them above the grille, 47s below the headlights. There didn't appear to be a spot on this car anywhere, unless they were in the grill maybe?

They are the same on '47/'48 models...round lights beneath the headlights. Stainless trim rings, gl*** lenses as I recall. You would carefully holesaw an opening for the lamp 'bucket' and drill a couple of small holes for the retainer studs/screws.

Hmm, it's kinda seeming like this is a 47 not a 46, going by the grille. And I guess the parking lights were removed and covered up.

Well for the trade I’d do the ford straight up that could turn out to be a good cruiser. Lower it a bit and drive it like you stole it

I'd keep the Comet.. You have a running, driving car that you can enjoy and would be trading for a project that needs a lot of work to be a running, driving car....

My first car, in 1959, was a 49 Plymouth 2dr. Deluxe sedan. I bought another, totally stock 5 years ago and have driven it a lot since. It’s just like my old one except for color. The only things that need changing is the highway speed and no air conditioning. I found an overdrive for it and it is being installed now. That should get me up to a reasonable 65 mph
On the hiway. I also bought a Vintage Air under-dash A/C unit which will go in next. I just hope that the 218 engine will pull the A/C. I really think that the 49 Ply is a great oldie and lots of dun to drive. My motivations are different from yours, but I’d trade in a heartbeat.
I have had no mechanical problems at all.
