Could someone tell me if the long axle goes on the p***enger side? I should have marked them but got in a rush. Also can you use ultra black silicone alone or does the retainer need a paper gasket? Thanks Glynn.

Don't be afraid and install short one first (no need to press all the way into axle tube). It will either go into side gears of 3 rd member or won't. The result will give you your answer.

    It's a 63 under a bel-air with a straight 6 230cu. Thanks to all of you for the reply.

@trucker1 To answer your question directly as asked. The short one is left. I like to show other ways than just answering.

Johnny, I tried what you said and it did the trick. Now to press new bearings on and finish up. Thanks for the help.

Johnny, I did what you said and it worked. Thanks for the teachable moment. Now on to press new bearings and seal it up.
