Hello Gentlemen, I’m trying to determine the source of my fenders on my recently purchased Roadster. Does anyone know how to tell the difference between Ford and Brookville steel fenders??? (I’ve found threads on how to tell the body, but not the fenders)
My friend got two Brookville rear 32 fenders for his roadster and we literally could not tell them from Ford fenders. The same with the Model A fenders on my RPU.
Sounds like the Brookville pieces are actually good parts. For some reason a lot of (not cheap) repro parts aren't.
I think I read somewhere that if you hit them both with the same hammer and with equal blows, the Brookville one will end up with a slightly deeper dent, than the original. You have to make sure that the original Ford fender has not rusted thinner though.....otherwise the rusted thin Henry" might dent the same depth as the Brookville.
I've got 32 Brookvilles F&R on my delivery, 3 window and 5 window and other than a little m***aging on the fronts they fit and look great.
Many years ago Fostoria made fenders for replacements for Ford as well as other manufacturers, as well as fenders made by, I think all American Ford Parts. The most important thing is that someone is spending the money, time, and effort to produce parts that are needed. There only a finite number of good original Ford fenders out there. One of my buddies bought several fenders from All American Ford parts when they were available, and so, he had them when he would need them. Several years ago **** Spadoro spent well over $ 100,00 to make 1932 ford fenders, but gave up the project as he couldn't get the manufacturer to continue producing acceptable quality.
We have had several sets of Brookville '32 fenders and I haven't had a set of front fenders that didn't need to be worked on to fit properly, but visually you really can't tell. HRP
Were any of these manufacturers producing in the 1970s? This car was restored for show in the ‘70s. Because the fenders have the same level of lacquer paint failures and age as the body, I’m ***uming they were all painted at the same time. I guess it makes no real difference but I’m curious. I’m in the process of hunting down previous owners, so that should shed some light as well. Thank you guys! I appreciate the help!
In the 70's there were plenty of good original fenders still around. I'd bet they are original fenders. The way to tell Fostoria fenders from Ford is the mounting holes. A 32 Ford fender didn't have slotted mounting holes where it bolted to the fenderwell. Fostoria had slotted holes there.
Mystery solved! I tracked down a past owner and found out the car was restored by the owner before him... a Henry Yeska who made parts and restored 1920s/30's Packards and Cadillacs in the 1970's. It was restored decades ago with all Henry Ford parts and accessories.... So you were right. Thanks for the help guys! I appreciate it! .
