when I bought this car, it was advertised as a 1933 Chevy Coupe, when I got the ***le it says its a 1934. I dont care which year it is, As I really like the car.I would like to know if there were any major differences in the 33 vs 34 years, And for fun, this body is channeled 4". Do you think I should chop the top?
Not a Chevy Guru or anything but I dont think there are any differances in a 33 or 34. Up to you on the chop but I think you should post up some pics so others can say chop or not!! PICS!! please...
I'm in the middle of a 34 Chevy 2d sedan Chop right now. My advice is Chop them all, but that's just my Personal outlook. One thing you should know before pulling out the Hacksaw. You better be a Damn good Cabinet builder also. Pre 36 Chevy's were no more than an Apple Box with Tin nailed on it. There is no steel inner structure in that Body at all. Even the A Post where the hinges bolt to are Wood as well as the Body sub rails that bolt it to the Frame. Thay just have a metal jacket over the wood. I think the wood structure is also why you don't see many early Chevy's. The Wood rotted away, the nails fell out and the Tin fell apart. By the way. If you know of any 34 parts cars I need a driver side A Post cover and both upper door jamb covers. They had fallen off my Car over the years and just dissapeared. Good Luck what ever you decide to do. The Wizzard
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3/leonrenaud/Carcraft61E this is a chopped and channelled 33 Chevy 5 window coupe there were 3 different coupe models in 33 Standard,Master and Deluxe one was much smaller than the other 2 but I don,t know which it was.i'm in the process of rebuilding this car right now chop3" channel 5" obviously a drag only car
Ok, I figured out how to Re-size pics, so here it is. Leon, bad *** car....what else can I say. thanks for the link
That is a '33 body. There were differences between the '33 and '34-5 body. That body swoop from the windshield down to the belt line being one of them. Have fun with it. Nick
Anyone know of a source for patch panels for 33 Chevy I'm not trying to steal anyones post but I need pieces of rear quarter panels for my restoration for the record that cars roof is armpit high and i stand 5'7"and with my **** 2"below the top frame rail my helmet barley clears the top.the roll bar is minimum legal height for 1960 rules and they had to put it through the top to meet them
Flynj1, Thanks for the insight, its nice to know what you have. Lots of work to do, this car sat for a long time, and the seller "spiffed" it up with a lot of paint(coverup) to get top dollar ( which he did...) I knew going in, I just wanted(needed) the car. Any good books or info on the early OLds 303 motor out there? Thanks for the input, amidst the BS there is a lot of wisedom floating around on here.
This is the only pic I have of my friend's 34 coupe taken in spring 2003. Bought it bone stock from an ol guy that he knew for years. Finally gave in and sold it to him. First thing he did was take a few inches out of the roof.
Hey racer756, small world here...I'm from Montana but was just fishing out at Morro Bay. Anyway, I drug home a '33 Chevy master 5w last summer, needs a lot of work and a chop. I haven't been able to find much for patch panels. I have a good book at home that gives the cowl dimensions of the 33-36 cars to help you tell if you have a standard, master, etc. It's a company that makes hoods, etc, the name is Rootleib (sp?). Also, if you're interested in chops, I've collected a bunch of pics of chevy coupes with different amounts of chops. It helps me decide how much I want to take out, IM me with your email address if you want me to send them. On the wood issue, the one thing we have going for us on these Chevys is that at least the door jambs have the metal covering the wood supports, and this metal is fairly thick, especially on the A pillar jamb for door hinge support. I'm planning on welding these jambs to the body shell, then using square tubing on the back side (hidden) to replace the wood. This will make for a very solid car. Gary
gary, sent PM. Hope you had Good luck fishing the bay, I know of Rootlieb. I plan on replacing most the wood with steel tubing, and putting in a steel floor, Im torn on filling the top though.
Is the car in Stocton or Morrow bay?? I would love to come and see it in person.... I will be dragging my new 33 truck home this weekend...
Now for the pink slip ? I have had two cars with the wrong year on them, It seems they were sold as new but left over from the previos year. Useless
Big Olaf. for Now the car will be up in Stockton. I have a business in morro bay, and try to visit often. 33 truck sounds cool.
