I picked up a stainless steel tank the other day on CL to build a gas tank for my 34 pickup. It holds almost 13 gallons which should be plenty of fuel. My plan is to build something similar to what Jimmy Shine did in his pickup. I have the filler flange and cap which came off a Lear Jet and the cap is not vented. It looks like the shine tank has 2 small br*** fitting between the cap flange and sending unit. The only thing I can find that looks like those are pneumatic breather vents my fuel tank.jpg shine tank 2.jpg 20190219_173823_resized.jpg 20190314_181843_resized.jpg . Has anyone seen a tank vented like this? Also looking for any other venting solutions that aren't obtrusive (and work).

What about drilling a hole in the cap where it would be hidden with the handle down?

I would fit a breatherfitting on top of the tank. A hole under the handle would probably lead to spill petrol when sloshing arround in the tank, just my 2 cent.
How about one of those stylish breather ? 10-0980_600x600-2xdtzuy0HPUA60N_600x600.jpg

They make aircraft caps that are vented that will fit that flange. Look for something like Cessna or Piper. Jet fuel (like Lear Jet) use special venting systems built into the wing.

great idea with that breather... the screen keeps the mud wasps from plugging it...

Here is a picture of the bottom of my fuel cap. Hard to vent this one although I did find a few caps that had vents. Most of those had a smooth outer edge and didn't look as cool as the notched edge. As Dirty mentioned the vented caps were off a Cessna or Piper. I like the idea of the little breather fitting. The key is trying to figure out how to keep the gas from puking out of it and down the side of the tank. DSCF7754.jpg Screen Shot 2019-03-15 at 8.45.39 PM.png

The tank should have more than just a simple vent.
It should have a rollover safety valve too.

They have a check valve inside that stops the fuel from leaking out in a accident.

Here is a breather similar to the one oldbanger71 found. It is for a marine application. These are typically mounted on the hull of a boat away from the tank and any sloshing. breather.jpg

Another vent without a rollover valve.
    Not good.

Another vent that might work but lacks the roll over function is a Harley crankcase breather bolt. Screen Shot 2019-03-16 at 8.01.35 AM.png

Exactly what I posted above and used on my RPU tank.
I also converted the hose barb over to hard line.

You really should use a roll over vent valve. Just run a hose off of it to below your bed. It's a fuel tank, people expect to see fittings coming off of it.

    Blue,
I like how you modified the vent. The hardline looks a lot better then rubber hose.

@ Blue, you are right about the roll-over function, i should have sayed that, but thought this was logical with tank like this.
Anyhow i would use one of these with a internal roll-over-valve.
    My two cent.
