Anyone, got a 62 cadillac? Trying to figure out what oil gauge I can use for my cadillac. Would like to use the copper tubing from the gauge to the sending unit cause i heard the plastic tubing is fragile. Let me know! :)

Unfortunately, my car is at the paint shop getting the roof flaked so I can’t go take pics. I used a vintage Stewart Warner gauge.

forgot to ask what's the configuration? u ran the copper tubing from the original sending unit thru the firewall up to the stewart warner gauge? any modifications u had to do on the original sending unit? is ours 5/8 or 1/2 ?

As long as the light is in good working order why do you want to add guages under the dash? Just askin'

only reason i ask is cause my engine burns a lot of oil, so would like to keep track of it before it's too late. last time when i burned oil i could hear my lifters, so had to stop and fill it up with oil. the oil gauge didn't light up, also sometimes i think my oil dipstick is off, so rather have a visual idea of how much i have rather than opening up my hood all the time, and removing the lock on my chain.

  10. The gauge won't show you oil quan***y, only oil pressure. You will have full pressure until your level goes down enough so the pump starts to **** air as well as oil.
To work out if your dipstick is right, start with an empty sump, add the amount of oil it says in the shop manual.(I forget how much a 390 takes), then stick your dipstick in and see where the level is. Don't forget that the empty filter will take about a pint too.

I'd use an Auto Meter oil gauge, ELECTRIC! Auto Meter is superior over the S/W, and there are many different styles. Electric sender is 1/4 pipe thread, small, will Tee into your Cad oil port.
    Nice...the wire doesn't leak.
    * There are some later cars that have an electrode dipstick that records the level on the dash...simple sensor in the stick, 16 ga. wires come from the dipstick to the dedicated light on the dash.

  12. An oil pressure gauge only tell you how much oil pressure your engine has. Not how much oil it has. The best way and as far as I know the only way to check how much oil you have is pretty old fashioned and requires opening the hood and pulling the dip stick out. I hope that I have not said the wrong thing here I am just being honest.

I run gauges in most of my vehicles and when using a mechanical oil pressure gauge I use the copper tubing as opposed to the cheapo plastic tubing. It will be a 1/8th line and normally will have a compression fitting on both ends.

oh dang my bad, yea i'm going to do that. i always find myself putting at least one quarty every week. last time i check for full i more or less got an idea of where full marked. it is 5 quarts of oil, and 4 with oil filter already in there cause like u said oil filter already takes up 1 pint.
