Howdy y’all, I have a 413 block and some 383 heads. The Felpro head gasket part number is the same for a 383 and a 413 so I figured it should be ok. Well, it’s not. I’m getting exhaust into the water jackets somehow. I’m gonna check to make sure these heads are ok but I figured I’d ask around if anyone here has experience with this. Thank ya in advance!!!

Are B series heads handed left and right?

Are the gaskets front/back and/or top/bottom position specific? Should be so marked on the gasket face. Or is it actually the intake gasket(s)?

The bìg block mopar heads are known to crack but did you check the deck and heads for flatness?

Heads interchange. Intake is wider on 413/426/440.

Good prospect for a smoke test. If in doubt, do a you tube search.
    Modern, but sensible diagnosis.

If I recall the exhaust manifold studs pierce the water jackets.

I have the same problem with my Chrysler. the factory head bolts were just a little too long and made a small hole in the water jacket. all I did was get smaller header bolts and a little bit of sealant did the trick

If the 413 was a Max wedge, there could be an intake fitment issue.

That is the first time I've ever heard of the factory head bolts (or exhaust manifold bolts) being too long. Were the heads or block milled?
I swapped lots and lots and lots of big block Mopar heads around back in the day, I never even heard of the too long head bolt deal. Some of the exhaust manifold bolts had to be in the correct position on the manifolds (the manifold flange thickness varied, depending on which manifolds you had). Maybe it was an early production problem the factory corrected.

The motor home and heavy truck 413 heads are different from p*** car heads in the water core porting.. Don’t know if that impacts the intake manifold and intake gaskets, though.

I did some research it was only a problem for a couple months before they fixed it
