I'm making some custom exhaust tips for me car and I need some 2.5" 304 stainless exhaust tubing, 5 feet to be exact, two 30" sections. the local Napa wants $15 PER FOOT, and thats way more than I'm willing to spend for just some exhaust tips. Anybody have any other sources? Thanks.

You are in Wisconsin, there has to be some old cheese factory around you. They have lots of stainless in them. I heard about some youngns around Janesville that do a lot of exhaust work in stainless. I will have to check with the buddy who told me about them.

Don't hat the messenger - but, eBay has several auctiond for stainless steel tubing. The minimum order is five feet, but their price is way less than $15 per foot. Some of the auctions have the tubing in polished form. Just do a search for "stainless steel tubing" and you should find what you want. Hope this helps.

With all the dairy guys in your area I would think there would be a local weld/ supply house with the goodies.. might want to check that out?

Thanks for the info. All the dairy stuff around here that I've found is 2" or smaller :( Most of the E-bay stuff is 409, which, unlike 304, can rust. I'll keep watching though, someone might have what I want. I'll look into the recycler's too. When I'm there, is there a way to tell it's 304? Thanks.

If you live in the big city take a look at the metal supply houses.
Most times you'll find one that specializes in aluminum and stainless.
Or a really big one that has it all.

Order the tubing by size and wall thickness.
You'll probably have to take the whole stick - which can run between 16 - 22', but it's probably a 20' piece.

There are small outfits that sell stuff for home shop machinists.
They'll cut it to size and ship.
You can find their ads in Home Shop Machinist magazine and probably on the Internet.

Since regular exhaust tubing is pretty reasonable, how would it work for you to make your pipes from that and have it chrome plated?
Part of the cost for plating is how difficult the item is to polish.
A straight piece would be easy for them.

Thanks for the info. The best I've come up with so far is $50 shipped from Canada on E-bay. It's also already polished, so I'm saving myself some trouble there.
