Ground control to major Tom! So Its been almost 7 years since O started on my coe and every year I say that Im going to get it running/driving to no avail. This year things are settling. Started New job 2 weeks ago. Nice schedule, 5am_1pm Mon-Fri. Joined the local 88 so hopefully that helps with things. The Coe has been in the garage for a while but my other job didnt give me time to work on it. Now the weather is also cooperating,we had 1"of snow like 2 weeks ago, it was miserable. I dont know where to start. I have most of the things to make the last push. Money /time/wiring/gas tank willing friends/tools.. I need to wire this thing. I need to finish wiring the 700r4 transmission thingy to the brake switch(i have that and the instructions ). I need to get a driveshaft made(only takes money) I need to plumb the gas tank. I need to finish tying the front end sheet metal so I can finally hook the radiator Finish adjusting the shift lever Install windshield .. Etc One thing is bothering me: The engine and trans is all together, sitting where its supposed to but I didnt used a torque wrench on the flywheel,torque converter or the bolts that join the trans to the engine.. I went as tight as I could. I would hate to pull the engine. With all this information,where would you guys start? Hopefully u can help me get a plan together so we can get this beast running soon. Only seven years, for me it will be 16 about the middle of April. When I started mine, I went for the the "lots of thinkin' labor intensive small cash outlay" items first, slowly I've gotten some of the bigger expenditures (lots of money in steel for the body) paid for and now I'm am staring at some of the big chunks, engine rebuild, body and paint, interior, tires, etc. I can't see spending big chunks at the beginning of a project, because, at least for me, projects change as time moves on and I don't want to eat a bunch of cash, just because I see a new squirrel. LOL
Seth, just keep plugging away and it will get done. Ive found over the years that other projects get in the way to but I still never give up. Sometimes even half an hour a day can keep me focused and moving forward. Man, id hate to go back to the start now because I've come a long long way. And from following your build over the years, so have you..........
Start with a small task. Mark it off the list and move to the next. Once you get some momentum going they will go easier and you will start to see the end. Alternately......maybe tackle the wiring first, that seems to be the biggest hurdle in your mind? Get that out of the way and the rest is simple... But what do I know. If you were closer I'd give you a hand. I've seen your work, I know you can do this.
Thanks guys. Got under it yesterday, transmission is clean as a whistle. I forgot I bought/installed a new gasket/filter last year . Im gonna start with thale ****** next..
Just get a game plan in your head . Look at everything and decide what you need to do and if you have something that will be your way for other task . Try and do all of each task before starting something else . ( Not that I can do that .A.D.D. ) Try and do your cab wireing through the fire wall before you do front Sheet Metal, May be easier to get to . You got this and can do it . Have FUN . Blue
Thanks guys... I started wiring this thing... I also need to buy some mechanical oil pressure and temp gauges.. Does any one know if the sell replacement senders for regular SW gauges,ive got a few id like to use. Thanks
When I build a hotrod, I draw a rough picture and then number all the things to do and list all the things by number. As I get them done I check them off. In your case...wiring is last, Ch***is first making sure to build brake pedal, column, and other body-frame inter-related items as you go. Your COE is so cool that you just need to enjoy building it and don't think of it as a "have to do" project. Crank up the radio, get lots of lighting, organize your tools and parts, sweep the floor and just enjoy the build
Thanks guys. . Thursday was a good day. Joshua the younger hamber i met las year came over and we started routing the wiring. We converted the parking lamps to parking/turn signals and pre wired the headlights... Next week i hope to do more.
Summit or Jegs sell the senders. The fuel sender needs to be the right ohm range for your gauge. Or match the gauge to your sender.
That truck is Bad*** brother— hopefully a reboot will see you getting over the finish line. I’ve been looking occasionally and may have a line on another so I’ll be counting on the inspiration. Greg
Thanks guys really. This was the push i needed. Been hitting it al least 1 hr a day. Remover the 700r4 3 prong plug and ordered a new one. Ordered a 2 wire plug for my hei. Got a steel fuel line bent from carb to fuel pump. Removed the oil cooler lines to check them,they look good... Oil cooler looks good. Reinstalled mech fan. Checked all pulleys and alternator. I tried bench testing my new holley red electric fuel pump by hooking directly to the battery... Nothing... Do i need a relay to bench test?
Should have at least gotten sparks, if not rotation and noise. Don't run it long without fuel in the pump.
congratulations! Awesome... That COE fender makes a fine mounting point for the regulation fuel tank.

Thank you. It feels really good to see something you created from the ground up take flight. I grew up with no knoledge on how cars worked,a friend showed me how to bleed brakes til i was 22,i had just a few tools and making minimun wage. My truck still has to be finessed and a bunch of money to be a decent truck but Im just happy that it ran and drove. I will just fix or replace parts as I go but im not going to go crazy an redo the whole thing from the ground up again. I have 4 more projects waiting and wana drive them soon before im too old to work on them
Your truck is VERY decent already...of course some headlight bulbs would be an improvement....HA! First drives are always so exciting and also scary.
