I found out last night all escutcheon plates are not made the same when we tried to install my new escutcheons on the rear window cranks, I was under the impression my interior window & door cranks were 40 Ford but when I tried put the handle on it was obvious I was mistaken, the hole on the escutcheon plate is too large and wont work, we dug around in the junk parts and found something spring loaded that does.

I wanted to avoid the early style that had barbs on the back and are prone to slip around and tear the material.

I will have to take it and go to the Early Ford V8 store and try to match it up, I never knew they had so many different types, live & learn and collect more parts for the next swap meet! HRP

On custom panels, just for info, over the years have found stuff in other then auto spots. House lamp parts and also in this case on my own handles; This last time I redid my inside. I used two rings from sewing store, made for d****s. I don't have those fanzy windows, just inside door handels. Worked well for my 28A

What do you call them Doug?, I could have called them the thingies that fit behind the door handles, but I'm sure someone would have corrected me. :D HRP

Truth be told, I've had better results using the term "thingie".
Don't remember what I was looking for at the time but I went to either Lowes or HD and asked the guy for an escutcheon and the guy looked at me like I had two heads.
    Life goes on!

If I recall, the ones for '46-'48 Fords are the spring loaded ones. They really come in handy especially if your actual handle or the rod on the mechanism itself is worn. Like you, Danny, I'm not fond of the ones with the little barbs on the back.

    It's pronounced es·cutch·eon. HRP

Escutcheon plates are what fit's between the material and the window and door cranks. HRP

On the universal spring loaded escutcheons I used on my 5 window and delivery they came with clear plastic bushings to make up for the difference in handle base diameter.

You guys keep using big words, I'm gonna have to leave, I thought they were called hoomerhingies, or thingiebobbers. I only know a few big words, can't say them here.

I have been accused of being somewhat of a sesquipedalian at times but every now and then I like to confuse people. :D HRP

Yea, I'm not going to look that up either, so I'm just going to make up my own meaning for that word. I probably shouldn't print my meaning here, so you will just have to guess what I'm going to say you are.

I saw an "escutcheon kit" that included "show quality" both inside door handles, both window cranks, all 4 escutcheons, 4 springs, and 4 new clips on Ebay yesterday for around $200. they are pretty proud of that stuff. Gene

Escutcheon comes from the Latin word for shield and was adopted into English in the 1400's as a place where you mounted your coat of arms on your armor. You can see how it descended down to Danny's need for a protective plate behind his door handles.
As for descending, it seems that you, SQUIRREL, have descended far enough, so I refer you to this:

The origin of the word sesquipedalis, is Latin meaning a foot and a half long, to simplify the word sesquipedlis translated to English just means using BIG WORDS! :)
My old Latin teacher would be proud that I finally used something I learned in his cl***
