    Agree...longer would be better...but it's close.

My thoughts on cowl steering. It seems everyone has their geometry figured out good or bad. Granted some may look fine on certain cars but why would someone want to poke a hole in a nice streamlined body, stick an arm and link out of it and break up a nice smooth sleek looking rod?

the further the arcs grow apart through their travel, the greater the amount of bumpsteer.

when are the arcs at their greatest distance apart? look at the drawings. when suspension travel is excessive. look at the drawings some more. how many of these cars have 12-14 full inches of travel? based on the scale of the drawings, that is what one would expect.

what other causes make the arcs grow further apart? arcs that have different radii. that's why everyone is suggesting equal length drag link and wishbones plus, the longer the better.

what factors can limit, not eliminate bumpsteer? notice i said limit.
    long, equal length arms/draglinks
    limiting suspension travel, stiffer suspension
    adjusting tire pressure.

nobody should drive an unsafe car on the roads. but to base it solely on geometry showing unrealistic suspension travel done to provide an example of extreme "what not to do" is a kin to chicken little shouting the sky is falling.
i'm not denying the occurrence of bumpsteer associated with cowl steering. i understand the geometry. i do. all i'm saying is there are other factors that come into play that do limit bumpsteer. but to just look at a car without taking anything else in account and make claims such as yep, bumpsteer, deathtrap, you're in denial, you're going to kill yourself and everybody on the road around you isn't right.
