I haven't scrutinized it yet but it looks like the grease seal has worn a groove in the shaft. Anyone know of a company fixing this kind of damage? (I'm guessing weld and machine smooth type of operation) Thanks.
Might be able to shim behind a new seal to get it out of the groove, or replace the shaft. I wouldn't be welding on it...not safe.
HI, how about building up the worn area with epoxy and sanding it down to match the unworn area of the shaft? good luck.
Companies like National seal make thin metal sleeves to go on shafts that have a worn groove. Most commonly used on harmonic balancers to save them, but they come in many sizes.A google search should turn up something,or a good counterman at a bearing house.
I work for a bearing manufacturer so I'm aware of "redi-sleeves / speedi-sleeves" and the process. I may be able to position the seal at a different height by machining the seating area higher but haven't looked closely at my exact situation. The sector shafts themselves are a pricey deal NOS, if you can find one.... Just looking at my options.
