    Yes, length is determined by RPM. Longer is higher RPM.

  4. The Foster Auto Supply car is Kurtis Kraft midget #1. Arlen Kurtis found the car and was able to restore it. Pretty cool to have the first of over 500 midgets your dad built!

  13. At the end of 1945. Frank would have had it built sooner but couldn't get the tubing and sheet aluminum needed for the build. The shop my dad was working at was heavy into machining parts for the war effort. Dad got the shop owner to order the needed material on a war priority and he had it delivered to Frank's shop. Dad was supposed to get the first midget, but Casale was slow in getting his new QC rear end built after the war. Frank was anxious to get Kurtis Kraft #1 out on the track to get orders coming in. Lloyd Axle had a Warren QC, and so Dad let him have #1. Dad had to let 2 more cars go to the next guys inline, and finally got car #4. That actually worked out better. Frank decided that, after #1, he could use thinner wall tubing on the frame, so #2, and all that followed were lighter. Also the first 3 cars had 1/4 elliptic front springs. Drivers said they didn't like the feel on dirt tracks, so Dad's #4 was the first with a cross spring front axle.

  15. Dad didn't get #1, but I did. In this photo I'm qualifying for a race in Wichita, Kansas, 1957. The car is Kurtis 1/4 midget #1.

    Dean I have to ask, did they have Trophy Gals at those Races to Present you Young Tikes after the Big Win?...heck we've see a few here. You fellas had Pro pretty down to a science there thats for sure!! Those are not your average go carts...
