Lot of odds and ends getting done but nothing too exciting to take pictures of. Finished up the wiring a little bit ago. Used a Rebel harness for the first time and have to say it is a really nice setup. He uses top quality wire and it is laid out beyond easy to figure out the connections.
Had picked up this GM tach drive generator early on in the project as a way to have a Tach because the magneto I found didn’t have a drive on it. The problem was, in the corvette it sat up top on the drivers side and I needed it flipped to run on the Nailhead bracket. Finally got over the hump of not wanting to modify it and just took it apart to make the changes. It work out well and fits the setup pretty good in the end.
Uncle Max at 97-express refurbished the bases for this setup and man what a great job he does, fast turn around and very fair price.
That's looking sexy!!!! Love your attention to details and mechanical Sent from my LM-X410.FGN using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Took a vacation week with a self imposed deadline to have this thing driving by the end of April. Cleaned and rebuilt the 97’s and tied up a bunch of loose ends and by that Thursday afternoon it was time to test fire. Rolled her out of the garage and after a couple hours of messing with it finally got it started and idling ok but a bit rich. Drove it around in the driveway for a few minutes and then worked on the idle quality some more. I shut the car off to make some adjustments and could not get it to start again. After about and hour it was cooled down and popped right off. So I of course jumped in and went for my first drive. Made it about 2 miles and the car shut off and would not start. After a call to Mason Racing Ignitions in PA he was pretty sure something was wrong with the magneto. Hard starting, not kicking back on the starter while cranking, shutting down when hot etc. Pulled the mag out and sent it to him on Friday and turns out the coil was dead in it. He’s getting it fixed up and adding advance so should have it back by this weekend. Hopefully driving videos will be in the next post !
Well I received the mag back from Mason’s Friday night and it fired off without much fuss and is running great. Jumped in for a quick ride and ended up putting 72 miles on it by the end of Saturday. Went pretty good, have a few bugs to work out but man was it a good feeling after almost 4 years of work to hit the road in this thing!
Man oh man, the car looks great Joe. Nothing beats the feeling you get when you drive a creation for the first time. Enjoy bro, see you around.
It turned out looking very nice. Is the Airtex fuel pump that you used working out okay? Sent from my Moto G (4) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks man yes the airtex is working out really well. I can’t even hear it running in the car it’s so quiet.
Thanks Jared! , we had a great time at the orange airport drag races this weekend. Car ran hard all day and took the clutch dumps without a hitch.
