Folks Of Interest Does you significant other have a hot rod or custom?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Apr 7, 2019.

  1. I realize I am one of the fortunate members of the Hamb to have a wife that not only supports my love for vintage cars but enjoys them as much as I do.

When we were dating Brenda was a car nut and was guilty of some street racing in broad day light in front of the high school.

Several years ago I finally finished up her Ranch Wagon and she loves it, I do too and best of all I get to drive it every now and then. HRP

I have told this story in the past but since Danny brought it up it may be of interest.

I have always been a car gal, my daddy and my granddaddy both taught me to love cars. My daddy said if I was going to drive I needed to know how to take care of my car, but it was Danny that showed me the love of speed. Running through the gears and watching the speedometer hit 100 was better than any drug for lifting the spirit and calming the nerves.
My junior year in high school I had classes with a girl who just kept bragging about her "guys" 55 chevy, and how he was teaching her to drive it. It was a nice car and it had some serious power, but it was not that special, but she just keep on, and on, and on.... She drove it to school one morning and she just pushed my last button. I told her my "guys" car was faster, it also had some serious power.
At lunch that day I left school and took my mustang to Danny ( he was at work) and I drove the falcon back to school. I could have probably beat her in my car but it wouldn't have had the same effect. I pulled through the parking lot and back down on to the main road in front of the school. She saw me and followed me. We lined up and she missed a gear. POOR BABY she wanted best 2 out of 3. We lined up again and I took her by over 2 car lengths. That conversation was over.
We pulled back into the parking lot and went on to class. ten minutes or so and we were called to the office. Highway Patrol Officer was there. He said he knew it was us but he did not witness it so he couldn't do anything but he would be watching us real close from then on.
Before I got the car back to Danny he already new what had happened. He tried to be mad but the truth was he was both proud and impressed that I had learned how to handle the car and a mouthy female.
When I got home Mama was waiting on me. The school had called. She had 2 questions,"are you going to pull a stunt like that again, and do I need to tell your daddy?" No Mam! As I turned to walked away she asked if I out ran her? Yes Mam! I still love the feeling of seeing a speedometer peg out.

Every time I buy a new project I tell her it’s hers. But she does drive all of the cars I build and helps work on them too. She likes driving manual shift cars she actually prefers them. She used to drive the 471 blown 4 speed truck quite a lot she drove it up to the Meltdown Drags a few years ago and one of the magazines did a little write up on it because they saw her driving it. Her best friend just bought it. She wanted an automatic instead of the Muncie so I made them swap it out. (With a little guidance from me. But they did almost all the work.

She likes hot rods but didn't take to the '31 I built for her. Wound up getting her bucket list car.... C3 'vette. She still gets into building hot rods and doesn't ask how much I spend on 'em, so if all it takes is a Corvette I'm all for it.

  13. I built the 52 GMC pickup for my wife, she loves the AD trucks. Also we call the 37 Chevy Ute hers. Although it seems I drive them most of the time. She has driven the 37 Ford Ute, although it's been off the road in paint jail for 8 years now. She has never driven my 49 Ford COE, but did drive my OT 68 GTO over 1500 miles cross country when we moved in 2017. Each vehicle is titled in both names, so legally they are all "ours". Yep, mine owns the vehicle in my avatar. It’s our only H.A.M.B. friendly hot rod ‘64 GTO 4-speed car. She also has another 4-speed ‘68 GTO and recently bought a 1980 Trans Am for our oldest son’s first car. She supports what I do 100% and I’m grateful. I am blessed. Randy

I don't have time to list them all, but her current is a '55 Chev that the previous owner bought in 1963. She picked it up last year. I might add that she does not condone me driving her cars, ever..... 55 chev to sell 012.JPG Petes 1955 Chev 002.JPG

This is my wife's 29. She says I have enough of my own. She took it uptown shopping and to the grocery store yesterday. Nothings prettier than a good looking woman in an old car! 20180722_162934.jpeg

Mine has a OT 88 Firebird Formula 350. She's had two C4 Vettes and a Fox body Muskrat. She loves cars as much as I do, but just like me, doesn't have much time to enjoy them right now with us raising the ADDHD Grandson.

Not gonna post any OT pics as I don't want to get the thread shut down.
