It’s not like you’re wrecking a pristine body. I think a slight chop would make it look better, especially since it’s channeled. Go for it!
Shaun, I love that the goal post in your story keeps moving. You started with challenging parts and have made a neat car by being willing to jump in with both feet and to make it your own. Thanks for sharing your story. I hope to see it some day.
That ol roundy round was pretty rough, you have saved something most would have passed on. That’s quite an acomplishment! Well done.
Re read the whole post. What a Great transformation. You are to be complimented. Thanks for posting the build. jim
Thanks guys. It’s certainly been an interesting journey, especially from what I started with. Should be fun ride once it’s back going! I took last week off from work, and instead of going to the beach or golfing- I stayed working on this ol heap for 9 days straight. Managed to finish my subrails, made a floor, welded that and the body all together. Made up some motor/trans mounts, and a pile of other project. Starting to look like something now! Worked on the dash last night... I picked up this dash for a couple bucks at a swap a while ago, think it’s out of an International. Wanted to use these Triumph TR2 gauges, but the holes were just a hair too big... Ended up bending a piece of TiG rod and welding it around the whole. They fit good now! Flipped through an old Hot Rod magazine from ‘63 and saw this ‘34 in the classifieds, thought my coupe had a close resemblance! Interesting I recognized the #777 right off as one run by Marty Robbins of stock car/country music/movie fame and then remembered it was also used by Kenz and Leslie on some o/t Cougar drag cars
Good catch! I remembered seeing Marty’s number a while back... Wish I could track down some more pictures of this coupe!
You got it all goin on, Shaun. This little coupe is recovering quite well! You obviously are the surgeon with education. I enjoy seeing your updates. Please continue.
I so agree...this old heap is happy old heap now thanks to Shaun and all his hard work... Congrats...it looks killer from here... MikeC
WOW! What an amazing transformation. I like the way it looks. You've made some great decisions, along the way. Keep it up...
This is coming back like Christine ( only with a lot more labor)! I Love it more every time I see it. Thanks, Carp.
Ha surgeon? Butcher maybe [emoji849] To be honest, I’m just learning as I go... Thankfully I’ve got some great teachers in my area that help me along. Glad to hear you like the build though, thanks for the encouragement! Thanks Mike. It’s come a long way from when I first saw it sinking into the ground out in the woods... Still a long way to go though! Thanks Bob! A lot of trial and error over the years... But that’s what hot rodding is all about right? Haha I’m a bit more on the conservative side... Thinking 3 or 4”. No rake to the chop. Gotta get it running first though! Thanks Carp... It’s crazy to sit back and look at it. Hard to believe it was the same car! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
HUH? I don't see any images. BTW, mine [avatar] is cut 3.5"...jus sayin... OK, I rebooted this thread and can see them now..lookin good!
Small update. Firewall is coming into it. Friend Howard donated the two wide 5’s that I needed for the front. Only came on 39-41 Ford 3/4 tons. 16x5”
Did I ever tell you that I Love your "truck"! When are you ever going to stop? I mean, please don't, but I think you must be dying to at least drive it around the block. Video if you do, Carp.
Ha I’m so ready to test drive! Going to focus on just this project, planning for September. Almost ready to blow everything apart for final welding. Fingers crossed. It looks further ahead then it is. Ha thanks, I’ve had a lot of fun in the Bantam pickup. No regrets on picking up that little rig! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
awesome work on this sweet ol jalopy. They were the joy of my childhood going with my Dad to races. My Dad was the cool guy who took us kids to the races, none of my friends Dads were into it, so my Pop was the king.
solo, my Dad sat with me many summer nights until the very last race. I think he put more miles on his cars going to the races than anywhere else, Great Times!
Couple steps ahead, couple steps back. Got my front end in order. Ended up with the following, after pulling it apart about 10 times: ‘35 Axle, drilled ‘47-48 Wishbones (I think?) split, cut for caster, and the ends shortened to fit axle without spacer Model A Spring I reversed, and then I unreversed. Model A perches and shackles (I hate the later repro shackles with rubber bushings) F1 shocks mounts, sliced and diced Plymouth shocks Have a guy lined up to balance rotating assembly for the Flathead. Have every piece ready to go- missing two connecting rod retainer pins. Spent hours hunting. Thinking about biting the bullet on new pistons. Probably safer, who knows what action these 1950’s Speed-O-Motive pistons have seen. Someday I’ll get this damn engine going!
