If mine is too low I'll look into that spring.

    Thanks!

According to the KYB cross reference website the KYB4503 and 5514 crosses to the same Gabriel shock 82026, also the Monroe 5751. Not sure if that is covered in this thread. I am researching for mine today, that is why I drug up this old thread.

ODD ? A member previously contacted KYB Tech and got a different answer, might look in their collapsed and extended measurement chart.

Monroe has one online somewhere and you can cross match results to other shock makers.

Here's the chart: http://www.kyb.com/knowledge-center/shock-tech-for-pros/dimensions/ The KG4563 measures 14.53" extended 9.53" collapsed stroke is 5". The KG5514 is 13.86" extended 8.74" collapsed and stroke is 5.12". Do not trust other companies cross reference charts with those measurements,my '54 suspension is stock the Gabriel 81270 on the rears were almost 2" shorter than the OEM Motorcrafts had to add 2" Mr Gasket extensions to be able to re-install the back tires.

It was KYB's website that gave me that info Jeff. Look at their cross reference chart. It's probably close enough that they say it is a direct fit.

I am ordering parts right now. I have the springs and the blocks, but I still need shocks. I was gonna order them local parts house, but I can buy them on Amazon for about $30 cheaper with free freight.

Morning, just scouring the group to get a definitive answer on the front Shock with the low Aerostar Springs ! I have now a shock with a 8 1/2” closed measurement from washer to washer face! I to purchased the KYB shocks & they were to long by a couple of inches! The Springs gave me 3” lower with upper & lower insulators! I only run a 5” front rim with 185 70 x 15 tires and it sits great with the Grenada axles. Cheers Wayne

  9. I just picked up these: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/GAB-82026 to go with new aerostar springs. Not installed yet so I can't report how well they work but I did check them against the FAQ page so they should be okay.

Avgas.........upper AND lower insulators? For a coil spring to function properly, the lower end of the spring needs to sit in the spring pocket with the end of the coil making contact with the stop that was formed in that pocket. That's why the bottom of coil springs are not ground flat like most tops.

The Gabriel 82026 is listed as a replacement for use with stock springs, however the length both collapsed and extended is the same as the KYB KG 5514 which is recommended by several members for use with the Aerostar springs 13.86" Ext and 8.74" collapsed. When I installed the 82026 on my '54 with stock springs the Gabriels were about 1.5" shorter than the OEM Ford shock was. This was also the case on the rear which called for a Gabriel 81270 it was shorter than stock also I could not get the rear tires off after the change I had to add a 2" shock extension to fix that issue.

Texas 57, familiar with the spring engagement into the lower control arm. I used a thin nylon type insulator approx .125” thick. It was thin enough to be compliant to the compound shapes of the spring & Control arm and made me comfortable that there was some form of insulator between the spring Steel & mild Steel!

    Hi guys.
I'm using the KYBs KG4503 and 5517 with stock oe coils. From the above discussion I understand the front ones are not right for the Aerostar coils. No way around it?

  14. Bringing this back to the top. I'm about to install Aerostar coils in my 55 with a 351W/AOD. Should i get KYB KG4503? or KYB KG 5514? I have no idea what's in there now. When i originally owned the car i had the stock springs and shocks. it now has Mustang rear shocks up front and the car sits so low i can't even get a jack under it.

I don't have a clue on the shocks, they're different than a '57, but any idea if there has been a spindle change since you first owned it?

I have 5514 on the front of my 56 with Aerostar springs and Granada spindles.

  17. stock spindles, stock suspension parts other than new stabilizer links. i think they just threw some mustang coils in it. I really have to get the car in my garage and up in the air. like i said, it's so low i cant jack it up under the crossmember. i'll have to wedge it under the side frame and keep going side to side.

Trying to get caught up on the Aerostar spring option. I just picked up a 52 Customline and want to lower it. Anyone lowered one with Aerostars and rear blocks that already figured out the correct shocks?

Use the Gabriel 82026 shocks,it has come up lately that guys have not been happy with the KYB's and the Aerostar combo. Do not go more than 3" in the rear and you will be fine looks like Summit has the deal on price https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...S78EuIQo5IQiovlh8Juwh_8NkY-BLOagaAvVvEALw_wcB And https://www.summitracing.com/parts/gab-82026 Aerostars https://www.summitracing.com/search?SortBy=BestKeywordMatch&SortOrder=Ascending&keyword=Moog CC850 I would call it in to verify that you get free shipping with your order as it is over $100. Since your Ford has the 2" wide springs these would be correct. https://www.performanceonline.com/Lowering-Block-Kit-for-2-Wide-Leaf-Springs-and-3-Diameter-Axle/

Do I need new spring isolators too?

  24. possibly, if the old ones are very worn. you can either get a cheap set at your local auto parts store for a few bucks or you can get Energy Suspension brand either on their website or order through your local parts store. the nice thing about the energy suspension is there's a bunch of widths to choose from if you have a little too much drop you can tweak it with a thicker isolator
