I want to cut the rear forging off a Model A Wishbone for future use on '36 rear bones on a '32 ch***is. How far into the bones does the forging go?could drill a few test holes, but if the length is known it would make things easier. Thanks! Bob

It’s not in much past the weld I cut mine right past the weld and there was just a funky piece. Left inside

I've cut a couple and always just cut with a hacksaw just past the weld just enough to drive the cast end out. Cut and rotate as you go and then you can make the length what ever works for you.

  4. I cut them just behind the weld or through the weld

FYI, You can cut an inch or so into the Forging and round every thing off. No need to weld bungs as the material in the renants of the yoke can be drilled and tapped for the tie rod ends.

I cut mine about 6 inches or so past the weld, this allows you to slide a 12 inch tube inside the yoke and the wishbones. Drill a couple holes in the yoke and wishbones to plug weld the pipe inside. Chamfer the end of the bones and yoke., slide it all together and weld the yoke and bones together.

The Kid is saving the yoke, not the bones.

Some times you just have to find the answer yourself. DSCF0877.JPG Guess I'll have the have the yoke and '36 bones cut for flags and have them welded in once I know how long they have to be. Split A wishbone is in the cl***ifieds 34 inches long. Bob
