That one looks mighty scary. I'm hoping there's a roll bar of some kind hiding in the smoke. Takes some cajones to plant the throttle on something like that. I saw the Blood & Cavil altered at Pomona, I was twelve. I always remembered it 'cause the name was sorta creepy. There were altereds everywhere at that event.

I looked at the original picture once again. It looks like it was scanned from a centerfold of a magazine and you can just see part of a rudimentary roll bar (hey, in that era they were ALL rudimentary!) that got truncated when the photo was scanned.
From above - CLEAR rocker covers on a "race car"..? Don't think that piece of sheet material would really pass as a grill shell either... Am I seeing things...is that "half" a V-8 engine? Mike
