I recently purchased a 1956 ford Fairlane town sedan. I was wondering if the disc brakes off of a 1970 galaxie500/ltd(yes, same car) would be the same as bolting Granada brakes on this? Bottom line, I'm asking if they would fit. Thanks for all your help in advance. HELP JEFFB. This was also posted on the main discussion forum also.
You'd have to ream a 15-degree taper into the ball joint stud receivers to use full-size Galaxie spindles IIRC. That's what I remember from a friend who did this on a '56 Parklane wagon.
Also, how do you determine the degree reamer you need? I guess I was wondering how you measure the degree of taper on the ball joint. Thanks.

Hello guys, My name is Dave and I am the owner of drop'em&stop'em and I am in the process of closing for medical reasons. If I can help any of you guys with Granada disc brakes and spindles. I have some parts left for kits or spindles by them selves. You can call me 818 572 5302
Thank you for all the kind words and thoughts. I do appreciate it very much. I will keep in contact, I still have my 54 wagon to finish.
Well.....I'm guessing I'm on the lookout for a 56 ford crossmember. I kinda figured but confirmed this past weekend. Any suggestions? Thanks.
This is the only company to get one from, they have been around for decades: https://picclick.com/1955-1956-Ford-Crossmember-Goodell-Fabrications-Front-Cross-152378750784.html If you were a good fabricator and welder the blueprint for making your own is in the "Sticky FAQ"
Well, ****! Excuse the language, but that was disappointing news from you, Dave. You're the go-to guy as far as a lot of people are concerned. Like Okie said, we hope this is not a permanent closure. Best of luck with your health issues, and do stay with us here on the 52-59 forum. Rich
The crossmember in the FAQ is for a 54 which is different then the 55/56. Goodell sells two different units 54 & 55/56. I made a template from sticky for the 54 and it was different then my 56 to confirm.
I'm a little beat up myself, probably could have gone out on disability 5 years ago... but I make too much money to consider it. About the ball joint tapers, you can do a test fit of a ball joint into a spindle, but clean up the taper really good and paint it with a Sharpie. Seat the ball joint gently, give it a spin or two. Take it out and see if the contact is uniform along the length of the taper. There are mathematical ways to tell too.
hopeful that as others have said that you bounce back Dave.as to above comment on the cross member what did you find different between 54 and 55-56?first time I have seen it mentioned
