The mercs had aluminum timing covers and aluminum housing distributors. The Fords had cast iron distributors with cast iron timing covers. They are different and do not interchange. The merc distributors had a pilot on the end of the distributor shaft that fit into a guide boss inside the timing cover. The cast iron Ford Distributor does not have the pilot. or the boss on the inside of the cover.
