chevy 3932441 heads..any good or scrap pile?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 36-3window, Sep 25, 2012.

  1. picked up a `66 chevy 283 engine last night for $75 from Craigslist. i think i lucked out because when i pulled the heads casting # 3932441 that were on it i see an almost fresh bore with .030 pistons. the seller stated that it ran fine and he pulled it out of a `60 chevy he just bought and installed a 348

i will probably use the 520 castings power pack heads i have. the 3932441 have 1.94 and 1.5 valves with what appears to be about 75 CC combustion chambers. i'm kinda concerned with the loss of compression virus the power pack's 60 CC's

so , are they worth keeping to sell or just throw in the s**** pile?

You might save them if you think you're gonna need a usable pair of heads to get a 350 running. I recently s****ped a couple pairs of 70s 350 heads. No one seems to want them these days.

The 441's and similar heads are used in limited racing applications here in the south. I wouldn't dump them, someone may want a good set of heads one day.

    Looks like they're 327 or 350 heads from '69 to '79 with 1.94 in/1.50 ex valves and 76cc chambers...

I'd think they'd be at least somewhat desireable as long as they were in good condition.

  6. after a second look at the heads , i see a few exhaust valves that look like this....the valve deeply recessed. could this be a hardened seat gone bad , or is this the dreaded valve problem with unleaded gas?

Open -um up 2:02 or I always do 2:05's. I think they have value, but its tough for some as long as vortec heads are out there.

That is called valve seat recession. Common if you are using pre 74 heads on a "working" engine. These heads are not compatible with un-lead gas. No lead lubrication is present and the soft exhaust seat erodes away. Usually the receding seat loses spring pressure, reduced contact pressure and overheats then cracks the seat also. :(

I'd toss them on the truck next time it's heading to the metal yard. The valve seats can be fixed, but it's kind of expensive....

  10. thanks for the input , they are going to the s**** yard

A BUNCH OF NO ACTUAL EXPERIENCE OPINIONS...........THOSE ARE GREAT HEADS FOR UP TO 400HP, THEY NEED TO BE UPGRADED FOR UNLEADED GAS 1ST OFF............ GOOD HEAVY CASTINGS............... RESPOND WELL TO HI PO MODIFICATIONS............
