Has anyone had any experience with having a crack in a cast iron part (cylinder head) pinned to repair it? I am curious what kind of long term results are achieved with this process. I found a very nice old original banger OHV head that has had a crack pinned around the first plug area. It is in the water p***age right where the water pump impeller would be. Seems to be done very well. Head also has new valves and new hardend seats installed. I believe the work was done in California by someone named Vermeil.
Anyway would be very interested to hear others experiences with crack pinning.

    Thanks,

    Jim

  2. i had a head repaired by this method about 10 years ago on a friend's daily driver. it was fine for the next 2-3 years she drove it until it was traded in for a new car

my understanding is if it is done properly you shouldn't have any problems

  3. We do some crack repair at work (cylinder heads, blocks, etc...) and we've never had anything come back. If it's done properly, it'll last a life time.
