I am working on a removable lift off carson style top.
I got a top kit that i will cut up to get wat i want.
At the moment the seat height is verry comfortable so i like to keep it that way.
I need your opinions on the roof line , i dont want it to look funny.
The roof is a declining , the door opening will be paralel with the door top and “b pillar “ line leaned forward.
What do you guys think ?

  2. I think it looks good, but you should:
    1. Replace the plywood with strips of masking tape to get an exact idea of the roof's contours.
    2. Roll the car outside and look at it from 100' (~33m) to get a better view.

The mounts and everything will be replaced with round tube, it is just for mock up and roofline check.
The flat bar/strips will also be replaced with tube

Great idea, I would go one step further a bed sheet over the masking tape for your mockup.

Agreed, lowering that will give it a better profile. Also, you didn't put the wood header on there yet, putting that on will give you a better idea what your dealing with.

BJR is saying that the mounts where it attaches to the belt line look too tall. Check out the pic that Besty34 posted, his are only about 1/4 inch above the belt line.

I like that green color you painted it.

The mount should 1" from center of the hole to the top of the sheet metal.

Thanks for the bedsheet idea and pick... beats tearing off a couple hundred strips of masking tape...
not that it and some duct tape wouldn't come in handy on the back side...
really like the roadster w/s on the closed car cowl...
    go dutchy go !

Hard to tell, but I think the center bow is too tall, too much of a slope down toward the windshield.

Yep, Centre bow is a bit too tall and the support from the windshield to its attachment point by the B pillar has way too much downward slope. Car look s good!

I agree , i like the roof more flat the thing is i need the headroom.
I can lower the seat but then i’m reaching to much to my steering wheel.
Dont want to change the whole car but also dont want a funny roof

Is there a rule of thumb of how much higher the top bow can be at max then the windshield ?

Blues4U is correct. Roofline must Be parallel with top of door and then slope down smoothly into the car walk.
Otherwise it will look like a VW convertible roof line, too tall, too angular and too lumpy.
I personally would go for a folding cloth top.
