So I'm doing 75mph or so down the road & I developed a slight trickle from the upper rad. hose.
Just behind that hose, is shitloads of highly polished aluminum in the form of a 6-71 blower.
Hot coolant + shiney hot aluminum = An ugly pain in my ass
I've been attacking this mess w/ Never Dull wadding polish. It works fine but w/ all that surface area AND nooks, cannies & curves..........sheesh! Takes ALOT of scrubbin & rubbin w/ this wadding polish to get rid of these unsightly white spots!
So does anyone have advice about other products that are stronger yet safe for the finish? Less time & effort is what I'm after here:rolleyes: but maybe I'm doomed to suffer.
I was warned against this shiney shit more than once:D
Is there a better way to clean this shit up properly?

  2. Mothers Mag Wheel polish (in the little tub) and #0000 steel wool. It won't scratch chrome or polished all. And the Mothers will polish and protect the surface afterwards. So, in a case like yours, had you used Mothers before, clean up would have been a little easier. Speaking of easier- the only way to keep those nooks and crannies looking good is with a little elbow grease. Now go out to the garage and pull that blower off and send it to me. There, problem solved.:D

  3. You might consider fixing the problem instead of playing a never-ending game of catch-up. Here's how...

Run a thin bead of black RTV on both the radiator bung and the thermostat housing, followed by a new (a nice pliable one, not a brittle old one) radiator hose, then finish the job with shiny new hose clamps.

After you've fixed the root problem, then give the blower the Mother's treatment. :)

Mothers Powerball or Mini Powerball and an electric drill work wonders on polished aluminum.

Okay, I'll throw in another angle.

When i polish my heads and inlet for my flatty i was considering clear powder coating the lot. Seen it done a while back on a car and it looked perfect. Brutal had his valve covers ceramic coated on the Rumbler but was dissapointed in the finish (crazed) but they were old originally, not brand new.

Another option is POR 15 clear, but there has been enough said on here to scare me away from using it.

Might be good to fix the radiator problem anyhow:rolleyes:

Flitz or MetAll. For really greasy use either with flour. My all time favorite is let it age with no leaks.

we use zoops aluminum sealer kits on all the polished eng parts on customers cars from the zoops billet people. works great, kinda time consuming but when done it is good for a year or so . wont spot or tarnish any longer after you treat it ... for a good long time......

  9. Steel wool is a good idea if you want satin finish but will trash polished finish big time.

Ah just great! Just when ya think to yourself......" self, there is always gonna be a smartass in the bunch somewhere". There turns out to be TWO!
Listen here ya buncha dickholes....my aluminum aint the only thing needs polishing!
I may really give it to ya if I can unstick myself from this chair. It seems that the more RTV Laura applied to my bunghole, the more pliable my hose became! Now I'm stuck to this chair.

Stuck to a chair huh, ok, this is easy. All we need is a little acetylene and a monkey that can operate a lighter

Had the same problem but was running Purple Ice additive in the coolant.Turned all my billet BLACK!Only thing I found to do a good job reasonably quick is 3M Marine Aluminum Restorer and Polish.Part #09020.Best stuff I've ever used and about a third the $ of the so called "Wonder Polishes"Good luck.Dave

Yeah! why didn't I think of that? That shit works wonders. It's less explosive than acetylene too. Still need a monkey though.

    Hey D.W.

Try a boat\marine shop. They have some good products for Aluminum and S/S. They might have (your location) a spray bottle that will help in the clean-up and keep your shine. Don't know the name of the spray bottle, but it saves time on clean-up. Brite Boy is good too. good Luck!

All I've used on this motor for 4 years is WD-40. Use it on the hoses and paint too.

You must all be fairly new guys or you've missed my earlier posts.
Thought everybody on here had got the message.
    Mothers, nevr dull, flitz,
All of them contain ammoniates or anhydrous.
    Bad news for aluminum.
    Makes it re-oxidize.
That's how they sell you more.
Do some research and go for pH neutral polishes.
That's what the big museums use.
you could even get my polishing e- booklet if you send an email to polisher@englishcustompolishing.com I'll attach it in a reply.
    Plenty of really useful info.

Not to hijack this thread too far,but what should I use on Jet-Hot coated headers? Jet-Hot says I've got some condensation deposits left from parking the car all winter on an unheated concrete floor and moisture has seeped out and condensed. They suggested ceramic stove top polish. Anything better?

If you've got a chrome ceramic finish you should be able to polish it out with Hot environment Chrome polish, but it must be ceramic, which I believe Jet hot is. Lot's of guys are using it on ceramic coated pipes to improve the finish.
