MAN i just stoped buy this kids house he kinda hangs around the shop and workin on some ****py camaro, anyway I swing buy to help him set the timing in his "350 camaro" and in the garage is this kick *** 60's volvo his grand pa bought new said his mom wanted 5000$ for it. Dam nice and complete doesn't run. Little two seater. anyone into these cars. are they worth anything to small for me. but it is sweet.
The prices on these P1800 are also getting higher and higher here! I have seen some that were running, but still needed fixes go for around 10.000$, a good one cost around 20.000$ -I think the "trend" with these P1800´s is that people has started to import them from CA and back to Scandinavia again! The engine in this sweetie is identical with the ones in the Amazon and 544, its not that difficult or expensive to get around 200hp out of it! Not bad for a 1000kg(or less?) car!!
Are we sure this is a P1800 and not a P1900 roadster? Or did those leave production before 1961? In any case, they've got lots of potential, I'd like to see a hot rodded one. -Dave
I wanted one once ( OK more than once). When I was a kid we called 'em a light bulb, I'm not sure why but there must have been a reason. If you're into sports cars how could you not love one???
These cars are awsome. I have a '65 122 (Amazon) that I bought from the original owner with 175,000 miles on it. It now has 400,000. They're mechanically the same as P1800s, but roomier. I'm 6'5'' and I still have 3" of headroom. No metric nuts or bolts, and they have Dana rearends. The sedans kinda look like a '53 Chev.
I wish I could persuade my wife that the Amazon and '53 Chevy are lookalikes. She loves 122s and the '53 Bel Air is perhaps my favorite '50s car (I swing between that and the '55 Pontiac). -Dave
thats it! it's with black guts and i was way off. I stoped to day to talk to his mom. She said 500$ not 5 grand. when he said 5 I though he meant grand. I bought it. and I am tring to get it to fire, it will crank. she told me i has been in the garage since 1978 and hasint ran since. the dash is cracked but the rest is perfect. and it needs tires real bad. thanks for info guys!
I had a 63 122 that was bagged, had Grille teeth like an old desoto and I put a twin trubo 283 in it. They are sweet!
Volvos are great! I used to have a '67 122S. Parts are pricey, but readily available since Volvo still made parts for all their cars up until a few years ago. P1800s are notorious rust buckets though. Thye were made in England and shipped in bare metal to Sweden for ***embly and finishing
www.1800philes.com -- adding electronic fuel injection to a Volvo. www.grmotorsports.com is great place to look for some more info also.
Nice find!! Any rust/bondo? I have 3 and all are rust buckets. I'm looking for another, more solid one to use for a project car. If you feel like selling it let me know . Rob
Check out this website: ipdusa.com. They've been supplying parts and performance accessories for Volvos since 1963. They'll have your dash pad and all the weatherstrips you'll need. They're in Portland, OR. The early P1800s were built(body and ch***is only) by Jensen Cars in England and tend to rust. After about 1963 they were built in Sweden. PM me if you need more info.
GOT IT TO THE SHOP super clean orginal paint its the same wheel pattern as a ford probe put some probe wheels on it tto move it around the shop pics soon
The first year of the P1800 is '62. Made into the 70's. Not only is the drivetrain the same as the Amazon (122s), the suspension is too. The later cars have bigger brakes and suspension parts that can be directly swapped in. I have always thought it would make a great 60's style bubble top custom.
1967 1800S -- girlfriends daily driver when she is here in Arizona. Solid and bulletproof and simple cars to keep running.
How come half the new guys who find cool stuff immediately turn it around for sale? I thought you were gonna build it! -Dave
I dont want to steal the thread, but now as the talk is on old Volvo´s I would like to show some of ours! Most of the guys in our "gang" has old US cars, but we all use the old Volvo´s as daily drivers all year round! They are cheap to buy here, and we have all kind of parts for them. They can be very fast (A friend aiming at 700hp in a 4cyl turbo) and are economic and cool looking! (Kind´a US 50ies style design) More pictures at www.fotki.com/mikaelmtb
Okay, Oldskewl, I guess that's fair enough. Any chance you want to flip it to a HAMBster for like $250 profit? Mikael, I love those old Amazons. I can think of a half dozen different ways I'd like to build one. -Dave
Like I always say: These old Volvos were built in the 60s with the finest technology the 50s had to offer...
